Hip dips have nothing to do with how healthy you are. It all boils down to your natural anatomy. Some folks have hip bones that are located higher on the body than the femur. This can cause an indentation on the outside of your lower hip area. The positioning, angle, and rotation of the femur can influence the look of hip dips.

8 best exercises to reduce the appearance of hip dips
Sorry hip dip haters, but there’s a solid chance your hip indentations are here to stay. You can’t change the way your bones are positioned or how your body stores fat.

While working out can help reduce their appearance, it won’t get rid of hip dips entirely. That said, here’s a step-by-step guide of the best exercises to try.

1. Squats
Squats help strengthen the muscles of your legs, thighs, hips, and butt.

How to do squats
Stand with your feet hip-width apart.
Inhale and brace your core as you slowly drop your b***y down like you’re going to sit in an invisible chair.
Keep your weight over the heels and engage your core.
Exhale as you press the feet through the floor and drive your hips forward to stand.
Do 10 to 12 reps.
Variations: Side squats can help improve dynamic balance and flexibility. From standing, step your left leg to the side and squat. Then, return to the starting position and repeat on the right side. You can also add some squat pulses at the end of each set if you really want to feel the burn.

2. Lunges
Lunges can help tone the glutes, hammies, quads, and calves.

How to do lunges
Start in a standing position.
Step your right foot forward.
Slowly lower your left knee toward the floor.
Your toes will be pointing forward with your front foot flat and the heel lifted on the back foot.
Push through the heel of the front foot and squeeze your glutes to return to standing.
Do 10 to 12 reps on each side.
Variations: There are so many lunge variations you can rock out to. Some popular options include walking, side, or curtsy lunges.

3. Step-downs
Step-downs engage the hips, hamstrings, and quads. Bonus: They can also help stabilize the knees.

How to do step-downs
Stand on top of a sturdy, low-ish stool, bench, or step.
Activate your core and glutes as you slowly step down with one foot.
Tap the bottom foot to the ground.
Slowly bring it back up to the starting position on the stool.
Do 10 reps on each side.
Variations: Step down into a curtsy lunge for even more oomph.

4. Clam lifts
Clam lifts strengthen the hips and thighs, stabilize the pelvic muscles, and tone the glutes.

How to do clam lifts
Lie on your side with your legs bent at the knees so they form a 90-degree angle.
Press your feet together and lift your top knee up to about a 45-degree angle opening.
Brace your abs throughout the entire movement.
Do 20 reps on each side.
Pro tip: These can also be done while seated on a bench.

5. Side leg lifts
Leg lifts target the tensor fasciae latae (TFL), gluteus medius, and gluteus minimus.

How to do side leg lifts
Start by laying on your side with your legs out long. You can prop your head up with one hand and place your other hand on the ground to brace yourself.
Keeping your top leg straight, lift it up as you inhale.
Slowly lower your leg as you exhale.
Do 20 reps on each side.
You can also do these lifts from a standing position, raising your out-and-up to the side.

6. Side hip openers
Side hip openers (aka fire hydrants) target the outer thighs, hips, and side glutes.

How to do fire hydrants
Begin on all fours in a tabletop position. Make sure your shoulders are over your hands and your hips are directly over your knees.
As you inhale, lift one leg up and out to the side.
Slowly lower the leg on the exhale.
Do 10 to 20 reps on each side.
7. Donkey kicks
Leg kickbacks can help tone, lift, and strengthen your butt.

How to do donkey kicks
Begin on all fours in a tabletop position. Make sure your shoulders are over your hands and your hips are directly over your knees.
Keep your knee bent and raise it off the ground until your quad is parallel to the floor.
Return to the starting position.
Do 15 reps on each side.
8. Glute bridges
All the muscles in your upper legs, glutes, abs, and lower back are on duty here.

How to do a bridge
Lie on your back with your arms alongside your body and your bent knees about hip-distance apart.
Lift your hips and butt off the floor by pushing the feet into the ground and engaging your glutes.
Keep the shoulders on the ground and slightly tuck your chin toward your chest.
Lower back down to the floor, one vertebra at a time.
Release the butt-squeeze.
Do 15 reps.
tl;dr
Hip dips are totally natural and are NOT a symptom of an unhealthy body. In most cases, they’re caused by bone structure and genetics. Exercise can help reduce their appearance, but there’s a good chance you won’t be able to get rid of them completely. And that’s OK! Hip dips are nothing to be ashamed of and don’t affect your mobility. Remember, hip health is all about function, not visuals.

Cancer cells can disrupt a metabolic pathway that breaks down fats and proteins to boost the levels of a byproduct called methylmalonic acid, thereby driving metastasis, according to research led by scientists at Weill Cornell Medicine. The findings open a new lead for understanding how tumors metastasize, or spread to other tissues, and hint at novel ways to block the spread of cancer by targeting the process.

The new results, published March 31 in Nature Metabolism, show that metastatic tumors suppress the activity of a key enzyme in propionate metabolism, the process by which cells digest certain fatty acids and protein components. Suppressing the enzyme increases the production of methylmalonic acid (MMA). That, in turn, causes the cells to become more aggressive and invasive.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and metastasis drives much of that mortality. Once a tumor begins to metastasize to different tissues and organs around the body, it can quickly become difficult or impossible to treat. However, researchers have made few inroads in understanding how a tumor cell acquires the ability to metastasize.

“A lot of work has been focused on primary tumor initiation and growth or examining the metastatic tumor, but to go from the primary tumor to the metastatic tumor, that transition has not been studied very extensively,” said co-senior author Dr. John Blenis, the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Professor in Cancer Research, professor of pharmacology and associate director of the basic science of the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medicine. To address that gap, Dr. Blenis and his colleagues have worked for several years to characterize the metabolic changes that cells undergo during the metastatic transition. That effort previously revealed that as people age, their bodies produce more serum MMA (although the source remains unknown), and that higher MMA levels drive worse cancer outcomes. Healthy cells also produce MMA, though, so in the new study, Dr. Blenis’s team probed the metabolite’s cancer-related activities more deeply.

“Cancer cells themselves can hijack the pathway that makes methylmalonic acid and this forms a feed-forward cycle that drives cancer progression towards more aggressive and more metastatic forms,” said co-first author Dr. Vivien Low, a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Blenis’s lab. The other co-first authors Dr. Ana Gomes and Dr. Didem Ilter, were also postdoctoral fellows in the lab at the time of the study. Dr. Gomes is now a faculty member and Dr. Ilter is a research scientist at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.

So, here's our weird story...

We're Carl & Miranda. We actually met much later in life, and we quickly discovered that like most we constantly battled to keep the pounds of our entire lives. Especially, once we got into our early 40's.

So here we were again trying to lose 'those unwanted pounds' again... Why? because Miranda had her 30th high school reunion coming up.

I know you can all relate. I mean who doesn't want to look our best when we're going to see friends, most of which we haven't seen for years.

I mean, c'mon. Whether your a man or a woman we all want to look our best at these things... Right?

One thing we both had in common was restless nights of sleep. Once Miranda started going through menopause she'd either be a human furnace or freezing cold...

This led to her in the covers, out of the covers... All night long! As a result 'No Sleep For Me Either'

Another thing we had in common was the the love of wine and food and unfortunately when I say food I mean bad food. I mean who doesn't love a great burger

Oh and forget about exercise we just couldn't get motivated and didn't have the energy. Even though truth be told I actually had a little more motivation than Miranda.

During some restless nights, I'd catch Miranda raiding the fridge for a midnight snack, but truth the told, other nights she'd be catching me.

The feeling of desperation turned into frustration as it seemed that everything we tried just wouldn't work for either of us...

Miranda really wanted to go to the reunion, but at the same time she felt like she didn't due to the extra lbs we'd both put on.
