So I can’t say I condone drinking excessive amounts of alcohol or taking substances. BUT I am all about practicing no judgement here at ‘ello. I am here to support you living YOUR best live no matter how that looks.
Music festivals are super fun, and with Splendour in the Grass coming up this weekend so here’s a few naturopathic tips to minimise the impact on your health and maximise the good vibes.
1. STAY HYDRATED & SUPPORT YOUR ELECTROLYTE BALANCE:
This is your sign to drink more water! 💦
Staying hydrated is crucial especially with all the drinking and dancing to be had. Dehydration make you tired and gives you headaches (no fun).
- Have a glass of water in between your party drinks.
- Take some pre-packaged electrolytes or put a pinch of of good quality salt (like Celtic Sea Salt) in your water bottle.
2. EAT WELL AND BALANCE YOUR MEALS WITH PROTEIN, HEALTHY FATS, AND COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES:
Nourishing meals support your body’s overall functioning and keeps you on the dance floor longer.
- Have at least a good balanced brekky (with protein) and make sure something is in your stomach before partying too hard.
- Aim for more than a bowl of hot chips during the day.
- Explore the food stalls, there’s some incredible food to be found.
3. SUPPORT YOUR BRAIN HEALTH:
Alcohol and drugs can lead to imbalances in your brain neurotransmitters causing those post festivals blues days after you just had the time of your life.
- Eat foods rich in tryptophan like turkey, nuts, and seeds to support serotonin.
- Support dopamine production and eat lean meats, dairy products, and almonds to increase tyrosine.
4. LOOK AFTER YOUR LIVER:
Ok now let’s detox and help out your poor liver.
- Eat your cruciferous veggies especially broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts as well as leafy greens, garlic, turmeric, and green tea in your diet.
— Support liver recovery with herbs like Milk Thistle, Dandelion, Schisandra, Globe Artichoke (reach out for how to individualise these for you).
5. PRIORITISE SLEEP & RECOVERY:
Chill out. Get some sleep NOW and AFTER to allow your body to recover.
- Create a calm sleep environment, practice relaxation techniques.
- Consider natural sleep aids like lavender essential oil or chamomile tea to if needed.
