There's a popular saying that goes: "You cannot expect to get well in places that made you sick." You need to deliberately shift paradigms.

Due to the unhealthy 'environment' the sickle cell person is naturally born into, the misconceptions, the stigmatisation that follows and the incessant bit down experienced from recurring sickle cell crisis, it seems impossible for the warrior to attain a healthy, crisis-free life. But that's just a delusion!

Anybody, despite the severity of the sickle cell crisis can heal from any sickness. Though it's going to require a lot of commitment, reorientation, patience and determination from you, it is very achievable.(You might need a health coach to work with you through the healing process).

Worthy of note is that healing is a process, it is gradual not instant or automatic and it starts taking place when you start to change from within. When you start seeing possibilities, positivity, and finally when you decide to heal!

One of the guarantees that your body can heal is hinged on the premise that "The human body was naturally created to heal itself." (Sickle cell or not) and in a situation whereby it cannot heal itself, then it needs to be fortified to achieve its natural cause.

Healing is more of an internal process than it is external. Meaning it depends and starts with you than any external support.

In making a shift in environment, there's a laid down pattern you must follow to arrive at the goal.

Spiritual- Mental -Physical.

It must be in this order as you cannot get to physical without having a change in mindset(Mental environment). Same goes for a change in mindset without having a defined Spiritual environment.

Alright people, welcome to the 5th month of the year 2021!

How're you keeping up with your health goals? Are you sleeping on them OR are you striving?

We need to get more intentional and practical about hitting out health goals, and this 👆👆👆 is a guide to helping us achieve out goals to an extent till we get better at it.

Remember no matter how severe sickle cell strikes you, you can still set health goals to reduce the severity and the occurrence of crisis.

Later this month, we will be talking on how to start healing from the traumas and complications sickle cell brings.

Make May the month were you get to live crisis-free,happy and fulfilled!

-What does it mean to live in health?

-Does living healthy mean I will never fall ill or have a crisis?
-Healthy living or not we will still all die!

These are some of the concerns running through the minds of persons living with sickle cell.

Yes! It is possible to be healthy as a sickle cell person but first, healing has got to start taking place.

It is possible for your body to heal from related and non related sickle cell complications. But for healing to take place you need to stop doing the things that makes you sick.

There are 2 main factors that influence our lives and health. Lifestyle and Environment.

You need to switch lifestyles and environments to start healing from anything plaguing you not just sickle cell.

For a while now, We have been laying emphasis on the need to effect a change in lifestyle as regards our diet, hydration, exercise, etc.

In subsequent weeks, we are going to be talking on change in environment.

5. Activate Zero stress level. Why?
Stress is a destroyer. It breakdown the cells and immune system rapidly and causes damage. You would say, is it possible to activate Zero stress level in life especially in a place like Lagos. Emphatically,YES! Avoiding stress is actually more of a mind thing than its physical. Nothing gets into you except what you allow. So yes, it's possible to activate Zero stress level in a society like Lagos. It all starts with your mind.

6. Take your vitamins and supplements. Why is this necessary you would ask. Aren't we eating a balanced diet plus fruits and veggies already? Oh yes! You're and that's good. But note.most of our food are over cooked and the nutrients killed before consumption. It's not your fault, its the traditional way of cooking we are used to. So in other to give the body its required nutrients you would need to supplement your diet.

7. Sleep soundly like a child.
Sleep! Sleep! Sleep!
This is one daily activity that doesn't come easy to everyone. It could be affected by a variety of factors like stress, Crisis, heavy usage of drugs etc. For you to sleep soundly you need to be in a place of rest. You need to relax. You need to deep-breathe. Sleep is first an internal activity than its physical. If you don't sleep soundly, you would realise that you get moody and cranky. You would have a low tolerance level. Things and people provoke you easily and you would snap alot. Nothing substitutes a good sound sleep daily. One more thing, DO NOT use sleeping pills. Sleep is a nature's call to the body to rest, it can't

When you look at the diagram above, I guess what comes to mind is, yea I can do this. Sure you can. But its not as easy as it looks.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle is the best decision anyone can make but it requires a lot of commitment and discipline. You would need determination to pull yourself up when you don't feel like doing the routine. When you have been knocked down by crisis. In fact it's when you have been bit down by a crisis that you need to be more determined than ever before. Diligently follow these steps and you would be on your way to adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy lifestyle To Do's:
1. Talk to God and Meditate. Why?
When you start your day with God and Meditate on His love for you, puts you in a good start. You're securing your day and this makes you confident tho still uncertain, you're assured you're safe and secured. This is the first step to fulfillment.

2. Hydrate - As humans, Water is the fuel our body runs on. As warriors, we need more of water daily than other humans because the sickled cells need more of it to function effectively. So do atleast 4L of water daily to keep dem cells running smoothly.

3. Eat your Food with veggies and take your fruits.- Why?
The body needs nutrients to protect the organs and system from the damage sickle cell can cause. These nutrients reside in a well balanced diet.

4. Move and Stretch. Why? I am SS, I wouldn't stress, it would lead to a crisis...(that's a lie!)
The human body wasnt created to be static. Its meant to be mobile. The only way a body can be static is if it's dead! So get up everyday and move your limbs.
