As pediatricians, AAP mourns with the children and families affected by today’s school shooting in Minnesota. The tragic shooting is yet another heartbreaking reminder of the toll gun violence takes on our children, their schools, and entire communities.

These are not just headlines. These are children returning to school who deserve to feel safe in their classrooms.

We owe them more than our grief. We owe them action.

As a pediatrician, I want what is best for every kid - not just my own. And as a parent, I want to feel confident about the care of my children's schools. Kristina Wheeler and Jon Shapiro are the school board members that CCS kids need and deserve: informed, compassionate, smart, and supportive of ALL students.
