There are so many things fighting for our time + attention these days, it’s difficult to determine what is absolutely necessary and where we can adjust to make time for the things that are important to us, that we don’t seem to be able to fit into the 24 hours we are given in a day. Seeing exactly where our time goes in black and white is a sobering reality of how much time we may be spending doing things that are not serving our values and goals.

There are so many things fighting for our time these days, it’s difficult to determine what is absolutely necessary and where we can adjust to make time for the things that are important to us, that we don’t seem to be able to fit into the 24 hours we are given in a day. The Daylight Savings time change can wreak havoc with our sleep. Sometimes we can feel the effects of a one hour change for over a week, leading to that sluggish, lack of energy feeling.

To experience fewer disruptions, making small adjustments in our habits can help with fewer sleep disturbances and minimize that tired feeling during the day. Choose one of the above, or attempt all three! There’s value in some or all of it!

Balance is the key to everything, right?

That also goes for what’s on your plate. If the goal is weight management +/or maintenance, eating a balanced plate will help toward your goals for multiple reasons:

🍽️ Satiety: eating the right balance of macronutrients keeps us feeling fuller, longer.

🍽️ Satisfaction: restricting certain food groups leads to feelings of deprivation, which can sabotage our best weight management intentions. A balanced plate means satisfaction, which results in a better chance of ‘sticking to the plan’.

🍽️ Crowding Out: following the guidelines of a balanced plate, we ‘crowd out’ foods that may not serve our body’s nutritional needs with healthy, nutrient dense foods throughout the day. Cravings, be gone!

🍽️ Eating for Fat Loss: eating a good balance of nutrients revs up metabolism and regulates blood sugar levels to ensure steady calorie burning throughout the day. It also boosts the muscle mass-to-fat burning ratio by providing your body with the essential building blocks it needs to maintain and build muscle, while also promoting effective fat loss.

Although the details may vary, following this skeleton guideline when creating meals at home or when ordering in a restaurant will go a long way to a healthier you. And that’s something we can all get on board with 😎

Balance is the goal for just about
everything, right?

A glass of lemon water upon waking and in the evening can have profound effects on your health.
Here’s the How:
Pre-coffee, squeeze half a lemon into a full glass of room temperature water and drink. Then, you’re free to caffeinate!
Similarly, after dinner (as close to bedtime as you can drink water without it disrupting sleep too much) do the same.
Watch and wait. It’s amazing, and super simple.

NEW BLOG POST!

Feeling the feels today…

My daughter and her boyfriend Sam left after a 4-day visit. We had such great, care-free, quality time together, and I am so fulfilled when I am with my girls. I felt exactly the same way when my older daughter Alexa and her boyfriend Will came for a visit (and left) in February. Along with every other visit before then.

One of my lesser favorite things about midlife is that the stage of raising the kiddos has changed.

There’s so much I have embraced about that. Newfound freedom, more time for me, way less exhaustion. Time with them in a different way: adult conversations, watching them evolve, seeing what phenomenal human beings they are turning out to be.

And…I miss my kids.

The antithesis of “The Fresh Start Effect”, which is a behavioral science finding that suggests individuals are more likely to engage in goal-directed behaviors and exhibit increased motivation towards achieving personal objectives when they perceive the beginning of a new time period (New Year’s Day), “Quitter’s Day” is a day named based on studies that say MOST people have given up on their New Year’s resolutions by mid-January. That means we are super motivated to start fresh and 3 weeks later we are giving it all up.

It doesn’t need to be this way. 2 ideas can be true at the same time:
Lasting change can be challenging.
AND
We can be successful making lasting changes that are important to us.

The path to change is not a black and white issue. It’s not linear and it’s not meant to be perfect. With a plan and some grace, it can be done and QUITTER can be taken out of our vocabulary.

Sleep is so under-rated, especially during the holiday season when we there are barely enough hours in the day to check off all the tasks that need to be done.

The irony is, the more rested we are, the more efficient we are, and the better we feel. Sleep goes a long way toward weight management + taking back control of our body during midlife, perimenopause + menopause fueling our confidence and allowing us to live the life we are meant to embrace at this time.

Shifting a few behaviors and sticking to a plan will allow for better sleep resulting in all the other benefits. There’s lots of information here ⬆️, so SAVE this post and SHARE it with a friend who could use the support. Let’s stick together abd help each other out!
