Feeling overwhelmed and stressed? I have the medicine! Join me this week for a restorative practice, either in person or live Zoom, for BOTH Tuesday classes. This is a very slow paced, restful practice and a perfect opportunity to bring a friend, neighbor or your house guests. Please bring a pillow and a blanket because (you guessed it) we are just going to rest, relax and breathe.

These classes will be donation only with ALL proceeds going to Tahoe PAWS, a local animal search and rescue. The director, Wendy Jones, works 24/7 to find lost animals, provide disaster relief for animals and is an advocate for our beautiful local wildlife. You can learn about this organization by clicking here.

There is no need to check in at the desk this week. Just join us in the Rubicon Room at Kahle! PLEASE NOTE there will be no class Thursday, December 21st.

We begin our practice again this week inside at Kahle Community Center. Please note that Mindful Yoga has moved to Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 AM. Zoom will be available for these classes. We will continue to meet Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM for Yoga for Every Body. This class will be in person only.

I had a wonderful visit to Honolulu with several opportunities to practice yoga. It was really a treat to have someone else tell me what to do! I was reminded that yoga works its magic only if we practice. It doesn't matter where we practice, who the teacher is or how expertly we do the poses. I love the Buddhist mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum". This can be translated to mean the jewel of the lotus is in the practice.

Speaking of practice, this is where I'll be this week. I would love to see you on the mat!

The schedule for our morning classes will switch to 9:00 AM as of that week. We have TWO more weeks of practicing at Kahle on our fall/winter schedule. Let's plan to show up and thank the amazing folks at Kahle for keeping us going during this crazy winter!

What a year this has been! We finally got to practice together inside after Zooming for what seemed like forever. Our beach yoga season was fantastic with only one evening of rainy weather. What was the best part of our 2022 yoga? It was definately being together again!

Thank you for coming to your mat each week with openness. Thank you for the smiles and the tears. They are all part of your practice on and off the mat. Thank you for trying new things and for resting when you need it. Thank you for your sense of humor....laughter IS the best medicine. Thank you for being kind and encouraging other students. You never know when you are making a difference in someone's life. Thank you for your trust in me, my teachers and this ancient yoga lineage. You are all my greatest teachers.

This week concludes our year at Kahle Community Center. We will be dark the week between Christmas and New Years. Our new year will start January 3rd with some amazing teachers sitting in for me while I lead the Karma Yoga Cambodia retreat. Please plan to start the New Year with Erin, Sue, Maggie, Iris and Jenna!

I hope to see you this week for some yoga.....in person and live Zoom

We're almost a month into the fall season and it finally feels like the weather is changing. How can you support yourself through this change? Most experts agree that getting enough vitamin D (sunshine!) and enough sleep are two ways to help ourselves transition to the colder season. One thing that I have been doing is to apply coconut oil to my skin after my shower to help with dryness.

It's also important to move your body during this seasonal which brings me to the subject of yoga. Not only do you increase flexibility during your yoga practice, but you can increase strength. A simple pose like plank encourages you to lift your body weight. We will be moving mindfully this week to improve not only our flexibility, but our strength, balance and agility.

Please register with Kahle Community Center in person or by phone (775-741-2574). Classes are suitable for all levels and we celebrate all bodies. Here is the schedule...

Why do we say Namaste at the end of class? Nama means bow; as means I; and te means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means, “I bow to you”.

Namaste is typically used as a greeting in South Asian countries along with hands pressed together at the heart. This hand gesture is a mudra called Anjali Mudra. The connection to the heart signifies that we all have the Divine within us.

My classes typically end with Namaste. It is meant to express gratitude not only to the students, but to my teachers and the lineage of yoga that has chosen me. By connecting to the heart center, I hope that the peace and love that has been created in our practice can be passed on to others.

Join us this week for some yoga on Nevada Beach! Please register in person or by phone with Kahle Community Center (775-741-2574). Bring a beach towel or blanket, water and something warm for Savasana. Classes are both in person and live Zoom.

Dear yogis and yogins,

This week, I've been thinking about the most basic poses, Sukasana (easy seat) and Tadasana (standing mountain pose). "The Yoga Sutras" encourage us to approach our asana practice with Sthira and Sukham, or steadiness and ease. How can we approach our practice to embrace these qualities? We'll get curious and explore this week using whatever tools we need to find steadiness and ease. Kahle classes are both in person and live Zoom this week. Please register in person or by phone (775-586-7271). I'll look forward to seeing you!

This morning in my practice, I set my mantra to So Hum. This can be translated to mean "I am that". It's a simple mantra and it always brings me to a place of acceptance. It allows me to accept that I'm where I'm meant be be at the present moment.

Last week, I had the honor of making a presentation on mindfulness to the State of Nevada Court Clerks. We talked about mindfulness, practiced box breathing and did some simple chair yoga. The presentation concluded with a one minute meditation. You can find it online here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiC8ktpev30&ab_channel=MartinBoroson

It was an amazing minute for me as well as I listened to a room full of live people breathing quietly. Needless to say, they enjoyed it. Check it out when you have a minute and let me know if you enjoyed it too!

We'll be on regular schedule this week at Kahle Community Center. Please register in person or by phone (775-586-7271). Our practices will conclude with both a relaxing Savasana and a meditation.

Only TWO spots left for Karma Yoga Cambodia 2023, January 5-15, 2023. If you are interested, please contact me and I will be happy to answer all of your questions. Here are some examples of the most frequently asked questions (with some humor mixed in).
1) What are the hotels like? Will I need to bring a sleeping bag?
Our hotels have been carefully selected for location, comfort and amenities. They are all 3-4 star properties with onsite restaurants, bars, swimming pools and fabulous breakfasts. You will melt in that sleeping bag, so no need to bring it.
2) I'm a vegan. I'm gluten free. I'm Keto. Will I be able to eat foods that work for me? YES, YES, and YES! Khmer cuisine is locally sourced with healthy options for all preferences. The fresh fruit selection will dazzle you. The vegetables are fresh and prepared with herbs and lots of love. The seafood is right from the ocean. You will also find burgers, nachos and pizzas if that is your pleasure.
3) Will I get sunburned? Probably
4) Will I have my mind blown by ancient temples and artifacts? YES!
That's it for now.
A $100 deposit secures your spot.
Land costs $1,600, due in four installments.

29/03/2022

I've been thinking a lot about transitions this week, both on and off the mat. When we practice yoga, our breath assists us as we move from pose to pose. To transition gracefully, we also activate our strength, flexibility, agility and balance. These physical attributes improve with consistent practice. All of these can also improve your life off the mat. Maybe you will find greater confidence in your ski turns or you find that your legs are stronger during a hike. Students have shared with me that they attribute their yoga practice to avoiding falls by being more agile and balanced. What has your yoga practice done to enrich your physical experience? I would love to know!

As we transition into spring, we continue our schedule with Kahle Community Center. Both classes are taught in person and live/Zoom. Please register in person at the desk or by phone (775-586-7271). Drop ins are welcome. No membership is required.

This week we will continue to explore our Moon Salutations with attention to breath and transitions. We will end with some deep stretching and a relaxing Savasana. All levels are welcome to join in. Variations of each pose will be suggested so you can choose what feels best in your body.
