Not every meal is “perfect” in my home - whatever that means. If my kids are *particularly* fussy, or tired, or sick (etc etc), I’d rather make the meal simple, flavorful, and high-quality. The latter is key! Here’s a quick lunch I put together the other day: Turmeric gnocchi, cherry tomatoes baked in coconut oil, and nitrate-free organic chicken sausage. It was a zero-fuss, yum, fun lunch for little ones and busy parents alike. Swipe to see my daughter’s stamp of approval ✔️

HEY! Yes, you! This is the last week to apply for the September cohort (applications close Sep 6th, enrollment Sep 13th).

When I joined the program back in January 2019 (37 weeks pregnant with my second, mind you) I had no idea what to expect. While I had high hopes for my certification, I couldn’t have guessed that this would have been the best decision I could possibly make, ever. So if you’re hesitating to join the course, or if you have any questions, ask away! I would love to help you make this decision for yourself, too.

An old picture for the very last day of the Breastfeeding Awareness month.
I was fortunate enough to breastfeed both my babies - maybe not for as long as I would’ve liked, but I did it nonetheless. Breastfeeding is hard. It is rewarding. It’s draining. It’s magical. It’s not for everyone, but it was the right choice for me and my babies.

I’ve been off this IG profile lately because, honestly, I can’t keep up with the IG algorithm changes, and I frankly don’t enjoy catering to it. But today is an important day for me, and I was itching to write again. So there’s a short new post wishing all possible mothers out there a happy Mother’s Day (link in bio). Do let me know if you relate. 💛

As the weather gets ~slightly~ warmer the kids actually enjoy eating salads! And sauerkraut! Together with an itty bitty (homemade) challah sandwich, naturally.

Happy Easter! Feliz Páscoa! 🐰
Growing up we didn’t do much for Easter, and eating chocolate was honestly my favorite part of it all. As we navigate creating our own traditions with the kids, we’re exploring ways to make the holidays equal parts healthy, exciting, and inclusive. The kids loved eating the colorful eggs on the last matzots we had left for breakfast. 🙃

Happy Passover! This year, like the last, we were supposed to be celebrating with my husband’s family, but alas we are still stuck in Munich and in isolation. We are nonetheless grateful to have enjoyed the moment as a family of 4, and were reminded (again, as has been the ongoing case this past year) to never take freedom for granted. Hag Sameach!
🇧🇷 Feliz Pessach! Hag Sameach!

Good morning! I know I post a lot of breakfast photos, but I can’t stress enough how important it is to start off your day with a well-balanced meal. It regulates your hunger and mood for the whole day, so make sure your breakfast includes some carbs (non-starchy veggies are ideal), healthy fats, and protein. Bonus points if you can include some fermented foods (I am fresh out of sauerkraut and kimchi 😭). Breakfast also happens to be my favorite meal. What’s yours?

Green juice, anyone? I am deliberately making more time in the morning to prepare this baby because DAMN it makes me feel good (and the kids love it, too)! Today I added: cucumber, celery, apple, carrots, spinach avocado, chia seeds, spirulina, wheatgrass, h**p seeds, oat milk and water (phew 😅). What are your favorite green juice combos?

Hey 👋🏽 it’s a been a solid moment. The past few months have been rough, and my mental health has suffered. During that time I started therapy, accepted medication, and dove a little deeper into investing in my holistic well-being. I hope you’re all doing well, and I’m excited to be back to this wonderfully supportive little community. (Pictured: Our typical Sunday breakfast lately - “choose your own adventure” bagels. The kids are always SO excited to pick their toppings. Today we had salad, organic cheddar, red onions, sauerkraut, veggies and free range eggs).

I have published a new video about starting solids and what method may work best for your family. It's in Portuguese, but as usual I'll be posting the content here in English throughout the week.

Last night’s comfort food to warm up the soul - oats cooked in oat milk with chia seeds, curcumin and cinnamon + homemade apple/pear sauce + spoonfuls of natural peanut and almond butter.

Do you know what are the developmental signs of readiness that indicate your baby is ready for solids? Swipe to see. 👉🏼

Your baby will probably start showing these signs at around 6 months (give or take a couple of weeks). I strongly recommend exclusively breastfeeding until your baby meets all signs of readiness, since they indicate that his/her digestive system is mature enough to start handling solids. The last sign should only be considered once all others have been met, as it can be mistaken for babies' eagerness to put e v e r y t h i n g in their mouths...!
If your baby hasn't met these signs by 7 months, then I gently suggest reaching out to their healthcare provider to rule out any developmental delays (although it can also be perfectly normal, and no reason for alarm).

Following a more holistic diet can be a wonderful decision for your body, mind, soul, AND the environment. Here are a few tips on how to get started.

1 - Start small. We all know that a radical change only works for a few days, so it is important to change one point at a time. For example - research what foods are most affected by pesticides during cultivation, and choose to consume mainly organic, whenever possible.

2 - Pay attention to your body. This is essential in the practice of holistic nutrition. We usually notice when some food is bad for us, but we insist on eating it because our palate speaks louder. An example is a person who always gets sick with fried food, but instead of changing the way they prepare the food - by grilling, or steaming - they prefer to fry and then take a medicine to relieve symptoms. This is completely contrary to the principle of holistic eating.

3 - Yes, it is the point that you already know was coming, and that I have to address. Limiting the consumption of meat and animal products can be extremely beneficial to health as a whole, as well as to the environment. I am not a vegetarian myself (I happily eat fish), but I do opt for quality over quantity. Grass-fed, free range, organic - they're all prefered when available and if affordable. Otherwise, giving preference to foods of plant origin typically benefits our health but of course, it is always worth paying attention to the way these foods are grown too (hello, GMOs).

23/09/2020

When I was a kid, my mom would always cook a bunch of different veggies and store a few days’ worth in the fridge, which we’d mix and match as we wanted. I am SO sure that my love for healthy food stems from having access to a variety of vegetables every day, as well as having the freedom to eat what I wanted, without pressure. I try to do the same with my kids - we get a variety of local, organic, seasonal fruits and vegetables delivered each week, and I’ll cook a batch to make my life a little easier come dinner time. While my kids are too young to actually go and choose what they want in the fridge, I try to make a point of offering as much variety as possible, which they can pick from. Some days they’ll eat it all, other days they’ll barely touch their plates 🤷🏻‍♀️ but what’s important is the daily exposure to healthy, nutrient-dense, whole foods. How do you get your kids to eat healthier?
PS: This is mom’s plate, the kids’ portions are a bit smaller 😉

A very warm welcome to my new followers 💛I’m assuming most of you started following me because I am an OBA graduate, so let me share a little bit about my experience with the academy.
I joined the very first cohort back in January 2019, when I was just about to give birth to my second baby. I had initially opted for the Advanced certification (pregnancy and postpartum nutrition), but a few weeks into the program I realized that I loved the content so much that I actually upgraded to the Masters program (I.e. + baby nutrition).
I worked through most of the course material while on maternity leave, after having recently given birth and with a toddler in toll. It wasn’t easy, but I LOVED what I was learning so carving out time little by little didn’t feel like a chore, but more like a much needed self-care moment.
Fast-forward to the end of program and of my maternity leave, when I took the biggest leap of faith. I quit my job in advertising to pursue my nutrition career full time - and it was honestly one of the best decisions I have made in my life. As a mom of two, I needed flexibility and control over my work hours, which is what I now have. I work from home (often nights and weekends too, don’t get me wrong), and I don’t have to ask for anyone’s permission to schedule doctor’s appointments or go grocery shopping in the middle of the day 🤷🏻‍♀️
But enough about me. Here’s more about the actual program: Oh Baby Academy is the only school that specializes solely in holistic health for pregnancy, postpartum, and babies. All programs are entirely online, so you can complete certification from the comfort of your home. If you already work with mothers and babies, becoming a Certified Nutrition Consultant will allow you to deepen your expertise, expand your offerings, and enhance your current career. It’s a win-win for all involved.
❗️Enrollment is currently open until September 7th❗️so if you’ve been hesitating or waiting for a sign, this is it.
Feel free to DM me if you have any questions, or go straight to their website and enroll (don’t forget to mention in your application) www.ohbabyacademy.com
