Autistic people often live with chronic illness, but the healthcare system rarely acknowledges this or provides appropriate, neurodiversity affirming healthcare.

Unfortunately, our medical system wasn’t built for overlap.
The system was built in silos.

That’s why our panel at tackles this issue head-on – bringing together experts who are living it, researching it, and changing it.

Panellists include:
– Dr Jason Lam, The Dance Doctor ()
– Dr Jessica Eccles, Brain-Body Researcher (UK) /
– Bianca Comfort, Clinical Psychologist / Director
– Monique Mitchelson, Clinical Psychologist / Director

Too often symptoms get explained away.
Too often autistic people are disbelieved.
Too often chronic illness gets missed.

Hi, I’m Bianca 👋🏼. I’m an AuDHD Clinical Psychologist, and I live with multiple chronic health conditions.🦓

At this year’s , I’m sharing a poster that explores how conditions like EDS, POTS, MCAS, ME/CFS and Long COVID are more common in autistic folk, and how they are often overlooked or misdiagnosed. I will also be speaking on this topic on day 3 - stay tuned for another post on that soon!

If you work in healthcare, research, or policy – or live this experience too – come and say hi. Let’s talk about what care could look like when it’s built for all of us.

This poster, shaped by lived experience and grounded in clinical research, calls for a shift in how we screen, support, and care for autistic individuals navigating complex physical health conditions. 🧡

I can’t wait to share it with you — whether in Dublin or by following along here at as I post highlights from the 14th Autism Europe Congress.

Big thanks to for hosting and organising this incredible event.
See you tomorrow! 🇮🇪✈️

I am excited to be speaking soon at the Neurodivergent Clinician Symposium in Melbourne, hosted by Lydia Meem and the team at 💙!

I’ll be presenting on:

🦓 Working with Neurodivergent Clients with Chronic Illness

This talk explores how and why neurodivergence and conditions like EDS, POTS, and MCAS often show up together. More importantly, it looks at why this matters in clinical care.

From misdiagnosis to medical trauma, I’ll be sharing what we need to know as clinicians to better support clients at this intersection. I’ll also offer practical tools for safer and more affirming care.

I’ve been lucky enough to have spent the last 2 weeks in the USA for work! , and I started off at the AIM Center in NY shadowing global leaders in MCAS - Dr Larry Afrin and Dr Tania Dempsey. Followed by meeting up with and to attend the .danlos Society’s annual CORE networks meeting in Baltimore. It has been heartwarming to meet new like-minded colleagues and see the advances in EDS, POTS, and MCAS all over the world. Grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from the best, and to bring back lots of learnings to Australia and our clients at Comfort Psychology and broader EDS Network.

Each CNE has to meet rigorous criteria for clinical care, research, training, and patient support. CNEs are dedicated to increasing the availability of clinical services, and level of clinical care, for people with EDS and HSD globally.

There are currently 37 CNEs across the world, providing best clinical practice and care for the EDS & HSD community. We are proud to be part of this initiative and improve access to quality care, improve individual outcomes, deliver the latest education, and conduct research.

We have already hit the ground running with monthly meetings which include case studies, reviewing research, presenting about our specialties, discussing referral pathways, collaborating on a national specialist/clinician spreadsheet and creating information and handouts for our patients/clients.

Our website and contact info will be coming soon, so stay tuned! 🤩
