Thankful Body, Why Now?
Welcome to the Thankful Body community. I've always been health conscience. However, with the busy social and professional lifestyles many of us live, it is sometimes difficult to focus on our nutrition and physical activity. Too often, earning a living and taking care of family come before our own health and body. Well, it's time to refocus. I created this page to share thoughts, workouts, recipes, and inspiration that have helped me live with more gratitude and improve my mind and body.
As I mentioned, I’ve always been active. I love the outdoors and many adventures like kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, road biking, snowboarding, just to name a few. A couple years ago, a colleague asked me if I would be interested in doing a triathlon. My first thought was yeah, but at the same time I wasn’t really sure what a triathlon was. I had heard of the name, but never paid attention because it wasn’t an interest. My colleague explained that it’s like a marathon, but you have to bike and swim (not in that particular order). So I thought to myself, I can run (I’ve done 5K races), I can swim, and I can bike so that should be a problem. Of course, doing all three back-to-back is another story :) The race date was 5 months away, so I figured that I had lots of time to practice and improve my skills and endurance.
During the 5 months training, I learned quite a bit about how to train, how to be discipline, how to eat properly, and what it meant to swim efficiently. It was in the midst of the triathlon training that I realized how great I felt mentally and physically. The excess weight was coming off, my skin was glowing more than ever, and my mind was sharper. I was extremely focused on being my best for the big race. I started researching nutrition, supplements, running shoes, road bikes, swimming strokes, etc. There are many factors that affect how you perform daily. I wanted to perform with the highest efficiency. What I found was nutrition and supplements played a major role in powering me through the workouts and shredding my body. My metabolism kicked into high gear and I started seeing my love handles diminish quickly. Granted, my training regimen involved specific exercises, food, and rest every day. I owe a huge amount of my results to the ritual I was doing. Another one of the great things is this ritual works for a wide of people, man or woman.
