I got my 3rd Covid-19 booster shot yesterday. I am very grateful that I had access to it. I also thank the indigenous health center in Toronto for bringing the booster to me and other disabled folks.

Educating non-disabled people isn't easy. It isn't always fun. But, when you get to give someone that knowledge of your lived experience; knowledge that will inform how they understand disability issues for the rest of their life, it's worth it.

I have been thinking about why I changed my name to Drew initially. I was trying to be someone else and run from being Andrew. I wanted to create this character of sorts. In reality that isn't me at all, really. Andrew is who I am, and I won't run from myself anymore.

Any disabled person at any time can experience the need to change their disability identifiers. One day they could be disabled, but tomorrow they could be person with a disability. It's okay to have more than one bit of language to describe your disability.

I have crippling anxiety about how I look. Not only am I a wheelchair user which, ironically renders me both invisible and WAY TOO VISIBLE all at once, oral hygiene can be challenging to do properly and I have pretty noticeable psoriasis on my face and scalp. I worry I'm ugly.

We’re excited to introduce Drew Gurza, a community consultant for Cripping Masculinity, meet Drew:

Drew Gurza is an award winning Disability Awareness Consultant and the Chief Disability Officer and Co-founder of Handi, a s*x toy company that puts pleasure within reach for disabled people.  Drew uses he/they pronouns and identifies proudly as disabled. Their work has been featured on BBC, CBC, Daily Xtra, Gay Times UK, Huffington Post, The Advocate, Everyday Feminism, Mashable, Out.com, and several anthologies. He was the subject of an award winning National Film Board of Canada Documentary “Picture This”. Drew has guested on a number of podcasts including Dan Savage’s Savage Love and Cameron Esposito’s Q***ry. He has spoken all over the world on s*x, disability and what it means to be a Q***r Cripple. 
He is also the host of Disability After Dark: The Podcast Shining a Bright Light on Disability Stories  which was nominated for a Canadian Podcast Award, a Q***rty Award and was chosen as an Honoree at the 2020 Webby Awards.
