The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released interim guidelines for the admission of students with disability, focussing on “functional competency” instead of their disability percentage.

As per the Interim Guidelines, Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) must submit a valid UDID issued by a designated medical authority under Ministry of Social Justice (MoSJE); self-certified affidavits; and the candidate will have to report to the designated medical board (16 designated medical boards) for verification of their self-certified affidavit.

📢 Policy Reform Update | BCMET Eligibility

Great news for faculty from Institutes of National Importance (INIs) like AIIMS!

BCMET will no longer be an eligibility criterion for them while applying to NMC-regulated institutions.

👏 Kudos to Dr. Amit Ranjan for persistently taking up this issue through the proper legal route and seeing it through to its logical and just resolution.

This long-overdue correction will now ensure that numerous highly qualified doctors from premier institutes are not unfairly excluded from opportunities due to a redundant eligibility hurdle.

A small but significant step towards streamlining faculty recruitment in India’s medical education system.
