The day I changed from a Dude to a Daddy, from a Person to a Parent, from a F@&kin Idiot to a Father ๐Ÿคฃ โฃ

Itโ€™s hard to believe my baby girl is turning 11 already - it seems to have happened in the blinking of an eye! โฃ
โฃ
A day to commemorate another year older, celebrate our blessings and be proud of the wonderful, little person she is growing into โ€ฆโฃ

Gentlemen, we are all familiar with the concept of the movement which began in 2003 with the primary aim of raising awareness, and money, to support the battle against male cancers such as prostrate and testicular.โฃ
โฃ
Since its inception, 21 years ago, the foundation has grown, evolved and expanded to encompass all aspects of Mens Health. Due largely to this momentum, the month of ๐™‰๐™ค๐™ซ๐™š๐™ข๐™—๐™š๐™ง ๐™๐™–๐™จ ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐™ฌ ๐™—๐™š๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™š ๐™จ๐™ฎ๐™ฃ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™ฎ๐™ข๐™ค๐™ช๐™จ ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ ๐™ˆ๐™š๐™ฃโ€™๐™จ ๐™ƒ๐™š๐™–๐™ก๐™ฉ๐™ & ๐™’๐™š๐™ก๐™ก๐™ฃ๐™š๐™จ๐™จ. โฃ

Over the last few years, a growing emphasis on Mental Health has seen other organisations, such as also adopt November as their official Menโ€™s Mental Health Month.โฃ
โฃ
These incredible institutions and their campaigns are now serving to elevate the profile of this tragically-under-recognised topic, break down the stigma surrounding it, and provide forums where men can openly talk about such issues. โฃ
โฃ
Traditionally, amongst men of my age and above, talking about such matters was treated as taboo and, for many, seen as a sign of weakness, fragility or even a lack masculinity! โฃ
โฃ
Encouragingly, however, during the last couple of years, I have had so many conversations with men, both clients and friends, where the discussion has invariably swung around to the subject of mental health, stress and anxiety! โฃ
โฃ
These personal experiences may well indicate an increase in the prevalence of such issues - no doubt compounded by global events of the last 4 years. โฃ
โฃ
More positively though, it suggests that the highlighting work of these pioneering organizations is indeed starting to pay dividends! โฃ
โฃ
Men are beginning to break the silence, step out from behind the societal suit of armor, and confront these issues with the same confidence and acceptance as they would a pulled hamstring or a bad back! โฃ
โฃ
I am no psychologist but I do wish to talk about mental health or, more specifically, mental wellness and state of mind, as it pertains to overall health and well-being, and the bilateral relationship that exists between our mind and bodies! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผโฃ

Over the last number of years, there has been a significant paradigm shift around the topic of Mental Health and Mental Well-being across society as a whole. โฃ
โฃ
Several key factors such as education, media and social media coverage, high profile celebrity โ€˜endorsementsโ€™ and global movements like ๐—ช๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—น๐—ฑ ๐— ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ต ๐——๐—ฎy have contributed to these changes in social attitude towards mental health issues. โฃ
โฃ
This increased awareness, acceptance and growing emphasis on the importance of communication, has slowly chipped away at the stigma that has seen this critical pillar of holistic health, historically ignored or neglected! โฃ
โฃ
Even more recently, there has been a specific drive to persuade ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป to pay closer attention to their mental well- being and state of mind! โฃ

Guys are now being better informed and encouraged to recognize personal signs and symptoms, and also to look out potential โ€˜red flagโ€™ behaviors amongst friends and peers. โฃ
โฃ
โ€˜Letโ€™s Talk About Mens Mental Healthโ€™, โ€˜Strong Silentโ€™ & โ€˜Donโ€™t Struggle in Silenceโ€™ are mottos regularly being used in the media to facilitate men at being more comfortable to talk openly about their concerns, fears or personal struggles.โฃ

Traditionally, discussing issues that include mental health, depression, anxiety or stress was regarded as taboo amongst men, especially men in their 40โ€™s and above! โฃ
โฃ
For far too long, the prevailing attitude amongst brethren, was that such admissions would be seen as a sign of weakness, fragility or even a lack masculinity! โฃ
โฃ
Encouragingly, however over the last couple of years I have had many conversations with male, clients & friends, where the discussion has voluntarily swung around to the subject of mental health, stress and anxiety, and these have frequently been accompanied by โ€˜admissionsโ€™ of โฃsuffering.
