I met a sleep training App developer; it didn't go how I expected.

The more I work in this industry, the more I am surprised about some people's/company's purpose.

I know I tend to be naive, but I used to think that most people want to do good for others.

Now I don't know anymore.

So, I keep doing my thing and hope for the best.

What do you think? Do you believe the world is a rather positive place?

Take care

Simply telling people "don't bedshare" is not realistic.

Here, I looked at the amount of people who bedshare in the USA, even though it is arguably the country where bedsharing is the most warned from.

In the end, many more families than we may think end up bedsharing for a multitude of reasons.

One is simply that most parents accidentally fall asleep while caring for their babies at night.

The American Academy of Pediatrics' latest recommendation states that an adult's bed is a safer bedsharing option than a sofa or armchair.

So if most families end up bedsharing, why not support them to do it as safely as possible?

What do you think? Have you bedshared at least some of the time? Tell in the comments 👇🏻

Take care.

I don’t want the sickness to mess up my child’s sleep!

I understand. Many of us tend to be in survival mode (not just during sicknesses).
To be honest, it is better to be that way and go with the flow even if it feels like schedule, wake windows, and so on are going to 💩

In this post, I discuss a lot of the science behind sickness and sleep. I hope you can find some data, even if it is not a MAGIC HACK!
I wish I could have a better tip, but I am keeping it real here.

Tell me below what are your unique tips to survive your child’s sickness

Long time no post AGAIN, if you have read down to here and you miss my content, put me a 🤒 in the comments; your support really helps. When I started writing this post, my daughter was sick, and I wanted to do some light research… And before I could finish… I got sick with… COVID.

This is your friendly reminder that more sleep is not necessarily better. 😯

The ONE consistent fact about adult and baby sleep research is that sleep needs are widely DIVERSE.

➡️ A recent 2022 study on 6 months old found that the average night sleep duration was 8h46.

😱 How is less than 9 hours healthy for a young baby?

Well, a baby’s well-being relies heavily on day sleep as much as night sleep.

These two are likely not interchangeable, but we cannot compare their 9 hours of sleep to adults' monophasic sleep.

Also, Sleep is a survival function. It is very difficult (impossible?) to go against it. Think about hunger or thirst; how hard would it be not to notice your child’s needs? They WOULD let you know.

For many children, their sleep guidance will help you find their unique sleep needs. Even if it takes time. (some babies are a little trickier; tell me in the comments if you have one of those bundles of love 💖)

It doesn’t have to look like any other family’s.

It just has to work for you.

Sometimes, in the middle of it all, it seems impossible.

Take it one little step at a time.

Eventually, you will understand your child and how to make things work for your unique family.

Anyone else need to hear this today?

Let me tell you a bit about myself and my goals.

I posted my first youtube video yesterday, and while Youtube is a slow Process, I am very happy to be able to create longer-form content.

I know long content is not for everyone; we have trained our brains for shorter and shorter content; it is hard not to have a gratification/value within seconds.

I myself love short content, but educationally-wise, we need sources, references and not swallow everything we hear just because it sounds good.

Additionally, reliable, up-to-date Science takes time to decipher, summarize and put into content.
I often spend a lot of time researching and probably use less than 10% to put into a good Carousel.

Now I want to let myself write long-form content, pour science into my heart's content in a video, and then extract pieces to put into content specifically for Instagram.

My content should improve here, but if you want more in-depth info, check my youtube Channel, Linked in bio Science for All Women.

😥 Parent Perfectionism is the real cause of child sleep problems.

👉🏻 Tell me in the comments if you agree or disagree

🤱🏽 Before becoming a mom, I would have thought that was crazy…
But now, I see this time and time again.

💤 We blame our child’s sleep for every problem we have, and we think that by “fixing it” everything will get better.

🐥 So… at 3 months old, we get onto the sleep-training train; you know because there is a supposed sensitive period for babies to learn to sleep (spoiler, completely untrue).

⏰ That’s what I did, tik tok tik tok, it’s time, I told my husband one day, while on the verge of a panic attack “we will mess her up if we don’t do something RIGHT NOW”.

🧠 And no, my logic or scientific brain was clearly absent.
Only the brainwashed part of my brain remained.

😳 So my husband looks at me and simply says “Laura, everything is going fine”.
That right there, snapped me out of all that BS, and I looked at my daughter and I saw that he was right. Everything was going fine.

💫 From then, I stopped listening to the part of my brain telling me “your daughter should” and I started watching MY BABY, learning from her, and providing her with the unique care that she needed.

🛌 I was still a perfectionist, let’s not kid ourselves, but I improved, and I keep improving every day.

👋🏻 Tell me about you, do you relate to my story? Do you struggle not looking around to see how your baby “should” be doing?

Sleep time is when parents can become DEMONS 👿
😭 Does that mean that we are the worse parent in the world?

Comment a 😫 if you wish it hadn’t happened to you.

🙅🏻‍♀️ NO, you are a good parent, just a dysregulated one.
As much as we need to take care of our kids’ emotion & nervous system, if we don’t take care of ours we simply cannot avoid the anger & even rage will come out.

🚩 Anger is triggered by feelings of unmet needs, threats, vulnerability, or unfairness.
🧠 When our nervous system is triggered over & over by our needs not being met, any obstacle to our goals can turn us into the Rage monster.

🌊 I heard recently that NOT ONLY do we need our cup to be full, but we actually can give to others ONLY THE OVERFLOW!

🤯 I was mindblown and I think we have a lot of work for moms to get better.

🥺 In the meantime, get as much support as you can In Real Life or Virtual and take a few minutes here and there to take a breather.

💕 Also, don’t be too hard on yourself; your mind and body will react that way because they can’t take it anymore.

💪 Hopefully, it will help you realize what is happening as well as make a unique plan to support you so that you can support your child.

Take care supermom 🦸🏻‍♀️🦸🏿‍♀️🦸🏽
