I just want to thank everyone again for participating in this project for my community health final. I really do appreciate all of the likes, comments, and shares over the past week. ❤️

The chemicals in cigarette smoke causes the blood to thicken and form clots inside the arteries of the heart. It can also lead to the formation of plaques in the vessels of the heart as well, resulting in coronary artery disease. This is yet another risk factor for CAD that Gregg County can improve on 🚬🚫

It has been proven that the risk of developing coronary artery disease in those who do not participate in regular physical activity are twice as high as those who consistently remain physically active. Specifically, the death rate of this disease for runners is 45% less than those who do not run. However, the benefits of preventing CAD can be achieved even at low running distances & speeds. Make it your new goal to exercise on a daily basis to improve your overall health and activity level 💪🏼🏃🏼‍♀️🏋️

The best diet for preventing coronary artery disease is one that is full of all of the options listed here. Those who remain consistent with this dietary pattern are expected to have a 31% lower risk of CAD and a 33% lower risk of diabetes, which is a major risk factor of this disease. By following this diet, you can also decrease your chances of developing hypertension, another major risk factor for CAD.
For all of those picky eaters out there (including myself), there is a little something for everyone to enjoy!! 🍌🍳🥯🥗🧃

Consuming an inadequate amount of fruits and vegetables leads to an increased risk for developing diabetes and obesity. In fact, those diagnosed with diabetes are 2-4 times more likely to develop coronary artery disease!

Deaths related to coronary artery disease can be reduced by 25% if the community recognizes & takes the actions necessary to correct these risk factors. Over the next couple of days, this account will list ways to modify some of these habits to live a healthier lifestyle & prevent the increase in mortality related to this disease in Gregg County!

In order to raise awareness to this disease, it is important to first understand what coronary artery disease is. When the walls of the arteries become thick with plaque, it causes the arteries to become dangerously thick and they begin to narrow. This can become fatal as the arteries that are becoming blocked are the vessels that bring blood to the heart. This disrupts the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the heart causing serious problems. Without enough blood, CAD can lead to chest pain which potentially causes an even bigger problem….heart attack. It is crazy to think Gregg County leads the state and the nation in deaths related to this disease!!

Hi everyone!! My name is Ansley Jackson & I am currently 4 weeks away from receiving my Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Texas A&M University. When asked to research a health-related issue within my community for my final project, I was shocked by my community’s statistics regarding heart disease. Based on the information that I have learned, I decided to base my final project on this deadly issue & have created this account to raise awareness to Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) within Gregg County. I work as a cardiac nurse in Longview, Tx. & care for patients with this disease on a daily basis. I have learned that this is one of the most preventable diseases, and I want to do my part as a healthcare worker to help out my community to better understand CAD and it’s risk factors. I hope everyone learns a little something each day that might open your eyes to ways you can prevent developing this disease while also living a healthier lifestyle! ❤️
