↬ The color intensity of a false citrine can be used to identify it. Heated amethysts or fake citrine typically have a burned orange color, sometimes even turning brown at the points. The color of real citrine is much paler yellow. The size of the points in the crystal clusters can also be used to distinguish between the two. Citrine occurs in significantly smaller points than amethyst, with citrine points in a cluster typically being larger.
↬ The largest faceted citrine in the entire world measures a staggering 20,200 carats. The Governador Valadares municipality in Brazil is where the Malaga citrine was originally found in the 1980s or 1990s. The Malaga broke the previous record held by the remarkable 8200 carat "Sol del Sur."
↬ The word "citrine" may have originated from either the Latin word "citrina," which means yellow, or the French word "citron," which means lemon. However, citrine was not always the name of the stone. Prior to 1556, it was known as yellow quartz; after that, the name was changed to citrine.
