Sometimes I land a gig that resonates with me in every which way.

Today was just that.

Today I had the honor of performing solo cello - which I absolutely LOVE doing most - for a spectacular woman’s Celebration of Life at the beautiful Beechwood Cemetery.
What an incredible ceremony it was.
One that combined the sacredness of the circle of life with her love of art and music.

Being asked to be a part of this woman’s celebration (who, at one point in her extensive adventures and career, worked with chimpanzees alongside Jane Goodall) was beyond meaningful & special for me.
Even though I had never met her, I felt this woman’s love for life in veins and in my soul.

What a blessed gift, and day.

I am truly grateful 💖

This is a true honor and blessing 🙏

Thank you Wayne Mckenzie for offering your sacred services and gifts to us all, and choosing to be a part of our team at Property Healing Ottawa.

✨✨✨✨

Wayne McKenzie offers sacred Ceremonial Property Blessings designed to cleanse, honour, and realign the spiritual energy of spaces, homes, buildings, properties, and land. Rooted in Anishnabe traditions, these ceremonies use sacred smudging, song, and prayer to restore balance, clear lingering energy, and reconnect each space to spirit and the land’s original harmony.

Whether you’re marking a new beginning, seeking healing after a time of conflict, or preparing land for future use, Wayne guides each ceremony with care, intention, and cultural integrity. His offerings support both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, helping individuals and families ground spiritually, honour the land, and walk in a good way with their surroundings.

Wayne brings not only ceremonial knowledge as an Elder and artist but also lived experience growing up on the land and walking the Anishnabe way of life.
His ceremonies are a bridge between past and present, spirit and space — bringing healing, clarity, and renewed connection.

A little late but never lost…

All the emotions.
All the tears.
Every single one of them:
Joy. Happiness. Pride. Grief. Love. Faith.
And allllll the feelings that don’t have words.

I can say with utmost certainty and experience, that it truly does take a village to support and raise our children.
I cannot imagine getting to this stage in their development without the family and friends that I have - the village of strength, inspiration and support my boys had around them that helped fill in the gaps and offered them the things I could not:
The Grandparents. The Uncles.
The Aunties. The Healers. The Medicine People. The Warriors. The Musicians. The Teachers. The Artists. The Friends.
And of course, Creator God.

While my boys are fortunate to have the village around them that they have, it is important to remember that it did not come without effort. I carefully planted seeds and consciously grew the various branches of our “family” tree over time, knowing that I could not be or do everything for my children on my own.
Nor did I want to.

In a world of extreme disconnection from the sacredness of culture, family and personal purpose, our children are falling through the cracks.
They are lost.
They are terrified.
They are hurting.

I know that feeling all too well….

But it does not have to be that way.
It takes work to carve a new path, to cultivate a new reality, and to create a new future - one that not only supports our children in the balanced ways that they need, but allows for the essential reciprocation of energy and efforts that bring them deeper purpose and meaning, and shows them how much value they bring to people’s lives, and to this world.

This is where we are at now.
My son.
The graduate.
My boy who has overcome so much in his short 18 years.
He has made it to this monumental juncture knowing who he is
& where he wants to be.
I could not be more proud, and relieved.

It is not over as Tristan’s path is only just beginning, but his roots are strong and his heart is pure as he continues to grow more branches on his tree.
And for that I am truly grateful.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Wake up at 4am, hike uphill in the pitch black for 1 hour, greet the rising sun over the mountains as we focus on what we WANT in our individual lives, and what actions WE will take to co-create our own dreams.

This is the opportunity the birth of each new day offers us.

No one could wake up and climb the mountain for us.
Each individual had to find the will and the desire within themselves to make that happen.

Nothing happens to us.
It happens from us.
Including creation of our wants and needs.

Today was a reminder of just that.

Thank you Mother Nature once more for this sacred opportunity & moment.

Let me tell you a story about perseverance, courage, and determination:

Sometimes we are over prepared.
Sometimes we are perfectly prepared.

You just never know.

No matter how much I describe the hikes & try to prepare everyone in what’s to come - without fail, every time I lead (new) climbers up these mountains they are surprised by how difficult and extremely challenging they actually are.
But as with most things in life, the only way you know how hard something actually is, is by experiencing it for yourself.

In fact, some of the women joined us again this summer because they had to stop half-way up the mountain last year & were determined to make a summit for themselves this year.
And summit they did!!!! ⛰️⛰️⛰️⛰️

Another woman came again this year because last year the weather was so bad when we summited Mt Marcy that it was freezing, rainy, windy, and we couldn’t see 5ft in front of us let alone any views at the top.
This year we were blessed with THE most perfect summit weather of 15C sunny and clear skies.

That’s the thing. You just never know.

What we DO know though, is ourselves.
And what we CAN control, is what we choose to do or don’t do.

That’s not to say it was easy or there weren’t many moments when people wanted to stop climbing and stay where they were - but the sheer power of their convictions, determination and personal goals of pushing beyond the pain, the discomfort, and fears, and achieving their goals - no matter how long it took them - was indescribably inspirational and powerful.
From the early 5am pitch-dark start, to the 12-14 hour long climb, to the blisters, aching knees and incredibly sore muscles - YOU DID IT!!!!

Congratulations (!!) to each and every one of the women who surpassed their own expectations, reached the summit of their own goals, and pushed beyond any perceived limitations.
Thank you for trusting me, and offering me the privilege of being a small part of your journey along the way 🙏🏻

We did it!!!

Top of the Adirondack Mountains: Mt Marcy ⛰️
Highest Peak ⛰️
5,344ft

There were some tears, some laughter and even some choice words 🤬 but all of the women made it to the summit and back down safely and stronger for it!!

Thank you to this sacred land, our own bodies, and the weather that supported us along the way.

Sometimes you need to put down the endless busy-ness and “to-do” lists of life, and go have FUN!!

Played hooky from renovations, packing 2 houses, moving & work, to spend the day with some of my favorite people at Six Flags LaRonde (Montreal).

Medicine for the mind, body and soul.
