We’re currently enjoying Aubergine Pate (also known as Baba Ganoush) on almost all of our meals. It’s great as a base for vegetables and grains, delicious with a large rocket salad, or perfect with pitta and crudités.

I’ve been making the following recipe for 34 years and it’s a firm favourite:

2 medium aubergines (halved, scored, drizzled with olive oil and a sprinkling of sea salt, roasted at 180 C for 30-40 minutes).

To a food processor, add:
Roasted aubergines (skin removed)
4 Tablespoons Tahini (sesame seed paste)
4 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
2 garlic cloves
Salt & pepper to taste

Process until smooth.

Add a handful of fresh parsley. Pulse until combined.

Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for approximately 3 days. 😋

Zhuzh up today’s lunch salad with leftovers from yesterday’s evening meal. Today we added a tomato passata with mixed beans, sweetcorn, sweet potato, and banana shallots. Quick and easy and tasty. 😃

Are you a Queen longing for the days of your Princess self? Let go of the yearning for the body you had in your 20s, 30s, or 40s. As women journey through the transformative phase of life known as perimenopause or menopause, often called a ‘second puberty’, it’s natural that their bodies change. These changes are not losses but evolutions, marking a new chapter of wisdom, strength, and resilience.

Embrace the body you have today. Love it, nourish it, and show it gratitude for all it does for you. Celebrate the beauty of this new version of yourself, a version shaped by experience and growth. Step into your regal power and own the uniqueness of your present self. ❤️

Recipe Change: ‘Nush’ yoghurt is now ‘Nush PROTEIN’ yoghurt.

It’s still vegan but with the addition of ‘fava bean protein’, what it’s gained in protein power it’s sadly lost in taste appeal.

If you loved the original recipe of blueberry, raspberry or strawberry, you may be disappointed with the new versions.

However, if you’re looking for protein gains, and if you can stomach the new taste, then this might be good news for you. The original nush recipe gave you 2g protein per 100g. The new recipe gives you 5.4g protein per 100g.

Recommended: ‘The Vegetarian’ by Han Kang - translated by Deborah Smith. Grotesque in parts and beautiful in others, ‘The Vegetarian’ is ‘mouth-wateringly poetic’ and ‘drenched in hypnotic oddities, taboos and scandal’!

We received a delivery this week and will definitely be ordering more. So fresh and tasty, unlike the bruised and stringy avocados we’ve been purchasing from our supermarkets recently. Highly recommend. 😃

Relax and Put Your Feet Up?
Instead of jumping on the ‘detox in January’ bandwagon, and instead of putting pressure on yourself to ‘get back into shape’, how about considering the winter months as a time to nourish and care for yourself?

Speak Words of KINDNESS: What’s your self-talk like? Are you being kind or unkind to yourself around the topics of food, exercise and body image? Are you berating yourself for eating too many mince pies or chocolates? If your self-talk is negative, ask yourself, ‘Would I speak so harshly to my own child or young member of my family around the topics of food/exercise/body?’.

Nourish yourself:
1. Awareness: catch yourself in that moment of negativity.

2. Interruption: immediately stop the negative thought process and replace it with kind thoughts about yourself and food/exercise/body image. It may feel hard at first, but with practice it will get easier.

Take PLEASURE in Life: As humans, we naturally seek pleasure and avoid pain. Don’t deny yourself enjoyment in life. It’s counterproductive and will always backfire.

Nourish yourself:
1. Create a list of all the things you really enjoy about life. This could be foods you particularly love but might have put on a ‘naughty’ list. Or, you might love an activity like swimming but have denied yourself that pleasure because your swimsuit isn’t fitting like it used to. Perhaps you love reading or painting or drawing but have viewed these things as frivolous when you’ve important ‘adulting’ to be getting on with. If you’re always on the go doing for others, perhaps you’d enjoy the chance to just ‘be’ by relaxing and putting your feet up for a change?

2. Using your calendar/diary, schedule time for enjoyment. Include things you can enjoy on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis. (And if you love a new notebook or diary, enjoy choosing a new one!)

3. Keep the date! View it as important and invest time in your own enjoyment.

This January I’ve really been enjoying the simple things in life like going on long walks, listening to music, reading, drinking hot chocolate, and putting my feet up and relaxing on the sofa. 🤗

My two adult children have recently inspired me by avoiding scrolling aimlessly on social media. One of them has deleted ‘Instagram’, stating that it’s as addictive as ‘Gaming’.

So, I’ve replaced reaching for my phone with reaching for my book instead. I feel so much better for it too!

And this book, set in Newcastle, has been strangely enjoyable:

‘Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle. Placed on sabbatical from her dead-end bar job, she is offered an exhibition at a fashionable London gallery, promising to revive her career in the art world and offering an escape from her rut of drugs, alcohol, and extreme cinema. The news triggers a self-destructive tailspin, centred around Irina's relationship with her obsessive best-friend, and a shy young man from her local supermarket who has attracted her attention...’

‘BOY PARTS is the incendiary debut novel from Eliza Clark, a pitch-black comedy both shocking and hilarious, fearlessly exploring the taboo regions of sexuality and gender roles in the twenty-first century’.
