Boundaries are essential in any relationships - family, friends, colleagues, boss and so on. In the surface, it seems that setting boundaries only benefits our own wellbeing, but it also helps everyone involved. It may seem confusing at first but it actually improves relationships and easier.

Expectations and needs are conversed through setting boundaries. It is not selfish, it is a way of practicing self-compassion and let people Know how you want to be treated.

Being grounded means that you are in control of your thoughts, emotions and completely accept reality as it is. But staying in difficult times is easier said than done. I know, even as a Yoga Teacher, I still snap and get swamped by emotions and thought biases.

Here are the things to ask yourself to be grounded:

1) Is this under my control? Stressing out with things that are obviously not in your control will not solve any problem. Observe your breathing and slowly take a long inhale and exhale and your body will start to calm down.

2) Does this actually matter? We tend to overthink and react to things that don't even matter. If it's not your business then just let it go.

3) Does my own perspective hinder me from practicing compassion? We all have our own biases in life. Are you in a diverse work setting where you can't fully understand why some people act or speak the way you think? Go back to number 1 question -people's actions are not in your control. Practice compassion and understand that they might be going through something. Of course, I'm not saying you should let yourself be a doormat. Speak up when needed, but you must remember to choose your battles wisely.
