Our first Christmas without my Daddy. I do not have sadness but instead I am thankful for the many wonderful years we had with him.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. I’ve been seeking a lot of comfort in devotions and in Gods word. I have a collection of Bibles. Most of them from my grandmother. I started using one she just passed to me, and quickly discovered it wasn’t for me, but for my Aunt. There are notes in it everywhere just for my aunt. It’s beautiful and very touching. My grandmother has nothing to leave when she leaves her earthly life, but she is leaving comfort, and teachings and that is worth more than any monetary gift that anyone could leave. It made me think of what a beautiful gift that is, so I bought a very special Bible that I can leave for someone special. A little bit of me, a lot of faith, a lot of comfort in Gods word. Have y’all seen these Bibles? You can make notes and you can color in them. They’re for adults and they’re beautiful.

I had not intended to hike this particular hike today, but Jay had never been and it’s one of my favorites. I’m not in great shape, and it’s been 10 years since I hiked this particular trail. Today I did it for my Daddy. I pushed because he couldn’t do it. I hiked in the clouds because it washed over my grief. I’ve climbed this before with many people in my life. But today it was for you Daddy. We high-fived at the top. Over 30 years of hiking these Smoky Mountains. I have two good legs and he didn’t, so I’m going to keep hiking. Always.
