Will you make your voice heard by voting in the Academy election!? Voting today! Wondering why I'm running for the position of Treasurer-Elect? Here are some of the pieces that make up my financial acumen:
1)   Certified Business Analyst: In addition to being an RDN and having a Master of Public Health, I also am a Certified Business Analyst. This allows me to make well-calculated and informed decisions backed by numerical data.
 
2)   Business Executive: As a Business Executive, I have significant experience working with large budgets and have formed and scaled multiple nutrition businesses into national companies. In my current role as President of Provider Networks, I oversee national teams and lead the acquisition of additional provider networks which includes assessing the financial health of organizations.
 
3)   Budget Advisory Committee: I was honored to be appointed to the Miami Budget Advisory Committee by the Mayor where I served for a two-year term.

Serving together on Nutrition Services Payment Committee to make impactful change to our profession in big ways (advocating to insurance companies, protecting and advancing MNT billing codes, creating a clear path to RDN inclusion in Medicaid plans, and more!) was a true honor!

This has been a great week of advocacy, one of my top priorities as a candidate for the Academy board of directors! As a past LPPC member and PPC, SPR, SRS (points to anyone who knows all the acronyms 😊) in PA and FL, I’ve been honored to regularly attend the Nutrition and Dietetics Advocacy Summit (fka PPW). This year’s summit has been exceptional!!

Looking forward to our meeting with the senator today…throw back pic from our in-person meeting with him, Past Academy President Lucille Beseler, and FAND President .oneill a few months ago thanks to ANDPAC.

Get to know the Academy's national election candidates before voting opens February 1!

We asked Treasurer-elect candidates, "What do you see as the top two roles and responsibilities for this position? What skills and strengths can you bring to this position?" Here's what they said:

Amanda Goldman, MS, RD, LD, FAND:
I believe the top two responsibilities for this position are ensuring effective fiscal stewardship through detailed interpretation of financial statements and budgets; and growing our organization, supporting member needs and promoting inclusion, diversity, equity and access. My specific skills and strengths include being a futuristic thinker who is proficient in budget, capital and operational planning with a solutions-oriented mindset, and being a strategic leader who is a disciplined self-starter, collaborative and demonstrates a strong work ethic.

Krista Yoder Latortue, MPH, RDN, LDN, FAND:
I believe the roles of the Treasurer-elect are to 1) monitor and align budgets and financial resources with the Strategic Plan to ensure organizational health, and 2) serve as an innovative, strategic and collaborative board member. As a certified business analyst, I bring a unique skill set to the role. My daily work includes managing large budgets and assessing the financial health of organizations for mergers and acquisitions.

Amanda Goldman, MS, RD, LD, FAND:
As a collaborative leader, I believe in knowledge-sharing and working together. With my background as a former nutrition and diabetes care director and a system director of a national nutrition program, I have mentored numerous interns and dietitians over the years. It was always imperative to demonstrate cultural humility and foster inclusiveness. In my current role, I am a member of our DEI committee and focus on employee engagement and promotion of various global cuisines.

Krista Yoder Latortue, MPH, RDN, LDN, FAND:
IDEA initiatives are imperative. One of my top priorities for Treasurer-elect is to lend my financial acumen to ensuring the IDEA Action Plan is adequately funded and reflected in budgets. My past efforts include co-presenting on behalf of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at FNCE®, co-presenting on cultural humility at the International Congress of Dietetics and co-authoring an Academy Journal article, "Dietetic Training: Understanding Racial Inequity in Power and Privilege."

I hope it is no surprise that one of my top priorities as a candidate for the Academy’s board of directors is DEI. One of the main reasons I’m running specifically for the position of treasurer is to lend my financial acumen to ensure the financial resources needed for DEI/IDEA initiatives are available, protected, enhanced, and used for significant change.

Wrapping up a weekend of birthday celebration. My birthday wish?….I wish for your vote in the upcoming Academy election!! 😊 In true RDN-form, I celebrated throughout the weekend with my favorite foods (oysters 🦪, Bloody Mary, tassot 🇭🇹, carrot cake) 😋 On to another year around the sun 🌞
