Literally one year ago today that I posted this. I miss my old classes so much, and I am beyond thankful for everyone who has been able to come back to class. To the rest of you, I can’t wait to reunite. I will be here for you! ❤️

Look how versatile a simple pair of dumbbells can be! We’re performing a squat track with one dumbbell under each heel, putting us into a forced releve! Extra quad action anyone? Make sure you still drive through heels, and that the dumbell is under your heel and not your arch - or ouch! You can find this @barreabove choreography and MORE when you become an elite Barre Above member! Happy squatting! 🍑

Demonstration Teaching Tip! It’s super important to coach exercises efficiently for the variety of ways your students learn - visual, audio or kinesthetic (touch or feel). In this clip, I change my orientation to the class by turning from front-facing to profile, I give the names of the exercises, give cues in relation to parts of the body and tell them where to feel it. I also let them set up their attitude pulse, since I’ve introduced a variation on the previous exercise, and then add in the arm pulse. Truly, our brains can only process a piece of information at time, so give your class one nugget, let them adjust, then give another nugget. No need to popcorn off rambling cues that will just confuse and frustrate your participants. Start with “need to know” cues, and keep them concise and succinct.
⭐️ What great tips can you add for to keep your cue game top notch? ⭐️
If you can read my lips, this clip sums up how I think we’ve all felt about most things this year. 😂 Remember, one step at a time, and eventually we get the hard stuff done. 👊 💪
Thanks for the fabulous Strength Meets Grace workshop @laurengeorgefitness and @justjbabove! I can’t promise I’ll never swear at you again, but it comes from a place of love.
How about a little breath play? And I don’t mean the ol suck n blow game from 7th grade. 😆 But anyway...we usually cue breaths in synchronization with our movement - inhale up, exhale down. Inhale extend, exhale close center. But what if we slowed our breath with an extended exhale with dynamic movement? What the what?! I’m showing it here in Cardio Yoga. My participants love it! It also takes their minds off their squats as they focus on breath, big slow inhale and long extended exhale.
Have you tried this? If you’re local, I invite you to join me for @cardioyogaa Wednesdays at 9:45am at @genesishealthclubs Sprague! We will sweat, stretch, breathe and meditate!

💖 It’s amazing how many wonderful causes there are to remember and support in the month of October! Here I’m jumping on board for @pikesforpink with the pike challenge using gliding discs!
I know many women who have been affected by breast cancer, so I call to you to research, donate, or at least stay on top of your own health by getting regular physicals and mammograms.
Thank you @barre.fit.love for introducing me and many others to @pikesforpink! I also saw some great piles @heidinealfitness!

So honored to be featured today on @barreabove for Meet Your Master Trainer Friday! If you’re just getting to know me, I am currently a Master Trainer for Barre Above (Omaha training October 25th!), Extreme HIIT Chaos (virtual training October 3rd!), and I am hoping to be added to the Cardio Yoga Master Trainer team as well! I LOVE teaching all of these formats - they all bring something unique and exciting to the table in their own ways. I truly believe these programs are bringing elements of accessibility, inclusivity, emotional fitness, community and more to the group fitness world! Elements we may not find outside of the GX studio. Becoming a Barre Above instructor completely changed my life for the better. I was a career-woman turned stay-at-home mom and I really felt lost. I went back to the gym, I’ve always been a weight room chick. My friend invited me along to some group fitness classes and I was hooked! A couple of months later, an opportunity to attend a Barre Above instructor training came up, and I did not have any understanding of what barre was - I’ll be honest, I thought it was like ballet. Big red NO buzzer! As you can see in the above clips, this ain’t no ballet class. What a workout! Fast forward to a couple of years later, and here I am a GX junkie, teaching multiple formats, and certified in many others including Balletone, Schwinn, MOSSA Group Ride and MOSSA Group Fight. It was a total roll of the dice when I decided to get certified in Barre Above - I had no freaking clue how to teach, cue, find music, or do a damn thing that’s for sure! I questioned myself many times. 😂 And it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made! Now, I’m here not only to teach people how to exercise, but to TEACH YOU TO TEACH! My great friend and trainee told me after last weeks Master Class, “You were made to teach us to teach.” What an incredible compliment! That means I am accomplishing what I set out to do and what my heart desires!
Here’s a clip from my Barre Above Master Class at Genesis Health Clubs this weekend! At my instructor master classes, I take the opportunity to not just teach the class, but teach the instructors HOW to teach as part of their ongoing mentorship. I show them the “WHY”. These participants are already Barre Above certified, and are working toward teaching on their own. Of all of the participants, only ONE has a group exercise background, so don’t be afraid to take a training as a newbie! I got you!
In this clip, I show layering, explain options to dial back the work (regressions), and give transitional cues. Can you find these examples? It is imperative to prepare all of your cueing before you teach your class. You will definitely change it up based on your classes needs, but go in with a cueing plan that you have practiced! Your class needs to be clear on what you’re asking them to do.
Do you want this choreography? This song is a bit of a musicality trickster! I’m happy to share! Please send me a DM with your email!
Make your choreography last a little longer, and work a little harder for you! While we all love fresh and fun new choreography, sometimes we don’t always want to reinvent the wheel, but we DO need a little pizazz!
Here we have a lower body barre combination, moving through the @Barreabove signature series, and then I show you the same choreography with upper body! Fresh, yet familiar!
Use this system when you need to add some extra upper body for a balanced class, or to perk things up a bit - a new spin on old choreography!
2nd Position Plié with the Barre Above Shift! The shift is one piece of Barre Above Signature Sequencing! Shifting goes far beyond right and left as I’m showing here, and learning how to implement shifting in your barre classes is a GAME CHANGER. I won’t lie to you, my thighs were on FIRE 🔥 in this clip! Can you tell? I had to keep going for my visual learners who were just doing this choreography for the first time. 😉
