LOOK | IPHO-Lanao del Sur Participates in the Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN) Program Evaluation Meeting

In response to the ongoing global nutrition crisis affecting women and children, the Integrated Provincial Health Office of Lanao del Sur (IPHO-LDS), through its Nutrition Program, actively participated in the Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN) Program Evaluation Meeting with Nutrition Center of the Philippines , alongside Dr. Amera- Maliha Ati, Chief of Technical of IPHO LDS, Dr. Alliah Matuan and Dr. Normallah Dimalotang Alonto, Municipal Health Officer of RHU Ditsaan-Ramain; Dr. Bolawan M. Delawi, Municipal Health Officer of RHU Taraka; representatives from RHU Malabang; and the Nutrition Coordinator from the City Health Office of Marawi.

The TLTN program, a collaboration between Helen Keller International, Vitamin Angels, and iDE, supports government efforts to strengthen local health and food systems by delivering evidence-based nutrition interventions during the critical first 1,000 days of life. Currently implemented in 48 provinces and 406 municipalities in the Philippines, the program reaches nearly 289,000 pregnant women and over 1 million children under five.

The evaluation meeting aims to assess feeding practices, service coverage for essential nutrition interventions (including vitamin A supplementation, malnutrition screening, and prenatal nutrition), facility readiness, and household knowledge of climate-smart, nutrition-sensitive agriculture. Lanao del Sur is among the selected provinces for data collection, which includes household, health facility, and community health worker surveys.

Through this initiative, IPHO-Lanao del Sur, in coordination with its municipal counterparts, remains committed to improving nutrition outcomes for mothers and children transforming lives one community at a time.

The Provincial Health Officer II of IPHO-Lanao del Sur, Dr. Alinader D. Minalang, expressed his full support for the Transforming Lives Through Nutrition (TLTN) program and its goals to improve maternal and child health in the province.

Together, we transform lives through nutrition. 💚

LOOK | ENSURING NUTRITION DATA INTEGRITY: MOH CONDUCTS DATA QUALITY CHECK IN LANAO DEL SUR 📊🍽️

In an ongoing effort to strengthen the quality of delivery and monitoring of nutrition programs, the Ministry of Health (MOH) – BARMM Nutrition Division spearheaded a Nutrition Data Quality Check from June 2 to 4 in several municipalities of Lanao del Sur, including Malabang, Balindong, and Ditsaan-Ramain.

This field activity aimed to assess the implementation of nutrition interventions in the province, verify the accuracy of program data, and determine how well local health personnel understand and execute nutrition-related strategies. Through direct field validation, the team sought to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities to provide targeted support to the communities.

The initiative also aimed to ensure that the Nutrition Program is effectively reaching its intended beneficiaries, while also opening dialogue with Municipal Nutrition Focal Persons to assess gaps and identify further assistance needed from MOH–BARMM.

The MOH–Nutrition Division noted several best practices in the field, particularly in record-keeping, documentation, and local data management—key indicators of effective nutrition program governance.

The activity was carried out in close collaboration with Action Against Hunger, UNICEF, and the Regional Program Managers of the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP), emphasizing a multi-sectoral approach in strengthening nutrition services across the Bangsamoro region.

As part of their visit, the team conducted an exit conference with Dr. Alinader D. Minalang, Provincial Health Officer of Lanao del Sur, to share their findings and discuss ways forward. The feedback session underscored the importance of local ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement in nutrition programming.

Dr. Minalang emphasized, “Effective nutrition programs are built on accurate data, community participation, and responsive systems. By understanding the real needs on the ground, we can better serve our people and achieve meaningful impact.”

We express our heartfelt gratitude to Minister MP Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, Jr., and the MOH–BARMM leadership for prioritizing field-level data quality checks that enhance program efficiency and responsiveness.

Through sustained collaboration and capacity-building, we move one step closer toward ensuring that no child or family in the region is left behind in the fight against malnutrition.

The Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2023-2028 is the first of its kind to be launched in the BARMM region, signifying a major step towards addressing nutrition challenges in the area. The importance of having a plan on nutrition lies in its ability to serve as a comprehensive framework that outlines strategic actions to combat malnutrition, promote health, and ensure food security, especially for vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, and marginalized communities.
