3 HOURS. START TO FINISH.
That’s how long my labor was w/ Harper. After a traumatic first birth, I honestly didn’t think this was possible for me.
Birth is the hardest thing I’ve ever done hands down. But also the most beautiful & rewarding. Our bodies are wild. Women’s work is unreal. It can feel unfair that we go through so much… but it can also be the most magical, primal, enlightening experience if you get the right support.
The car ride at 90mph, me in a robe w/ no shoes, eye mask on screaming “JUST DRIVE!!” 🤣 The birth combs cutting into my hands, Nick panicking over the EV not starting. The midwife telling me “you’re 9 cm” & me bursting into happy tears. By 4:05am she was on my chest. 8 lb 13 oz. 2 golden hours before anyone even weighed her. Cord pulsed white. She latched immediately. Pure magic ✨
Some things that I learned. Birth prep matters a lot, but softness matters more. Surrender. Patience. Breath. Rest. Trusting the process instead of forcing it!
✨ Things I SWEAR by for birth:
* Hypnobirthing class w/ , an angel on earth and will forever shout this from the rooftops! Virtual so you can do it from anywhere 🩷
* Doula support
* Birthing combs (2, one in each hand)
* Stretching nightly the entire 3rd tri, acupuncture & chiro in the final weeks, daily movement + rest days
* Eye mask (the bra-looking kind hahah)
* A partner who supports the sh*& out of you & floods you w/ oxytocin & understands what a marathon pregnancy/labor/postpartum truly is
* A doctor/midwife who trusts the process
* A hospital (if you choose) that supports natural birth, delayed cord cutting & long golden hours
*
If you’re waiting for your own birth, know this: it doesn’t have to be calm or perfect to be beautiful 🌸
