Although most long-term/skilled-nursing facilities continue to be for-profit entities, they are still missing the mark on proper cleaning and disinfection. Nursing homes with five stars are considered to have "above average quality" while nursing homes with one star are considered to have "below average quality" (cms.gov). CDC BETR Study recommendations identify the importance of having a two-part cleaning process to effectively mitigate hazards with pathogen, virus and fungicidal transfers. High-touch surfaces and patient bathrooms are at the forefront of the problem. Safe, reliable products and systems are readily available. It's time to hold for-profits accountable for lack of proper cleaning as it directly impacts the most vulnerable populations.
