We recently spent time at Mmadinare Primary Hospital on a Research Project with UNFPA and MOH investigating Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

The health workers at the facility were truly amazing…the vibrancy of the colors on this building are an accurate reflection of their passion and commitment to their community and their patients.

“We should put ourselves in the shoes of our patients and think about how we would want to get services” was how one nurse described her work.

One of the many innovations at this facility was pharmacy decentralization. Medications at health facilities in Botswana are generally managed through a central pharmacy, with all patients queuing together to receive drugs. A novel approach to streamline services, began with a pharmacist and a doctor working together to identify the most common drugs needed for HIV clients and having these dispensed within the HIV Clinic. This simple action, which reduced patient burden for HIV clients and decreased the wait time at the main pharmacy, was expanded to other units to further streamline services.

Always a privilege to document and share .

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Over the past few months, Ledikwe Futures and Quihaba Pictures worked with the Botswana-UPenn Partnership to create a short film, Young Phoenix, in which three young adults share their struggle with anxiety, depression, and alcoholism while battling to promote mental well-being among their peers. Poignant metaphoric visuals and poetic narrative uniquely portray the symptoms and emotions of these mental health conditions with an aim of destigmatization. From their darkest moments to their search for help, the film illustrates that there is light at the end of the tunnel and support is closer than you think.

Please join us at the Euro Film Fest this weekend!. It is wonderful to have Dithunya tsa Rona on the Big Screen again in Botswana. We produced this docudrama with Stepping Stones International to promote positive parenting and help mitigate child abuse in Botswana and beyond. It is gratifying to see the film going into communities around the country, sparking discussions on child abuse.

Hope you can join us tomorrow!

A Ledikwe Futures and Quihaba Pictures Production for Stepping Stones International with support from the European Union in Botswana, FACET, and Fonds humanitaire Stéphanie Lacroix Humanitarian Fund.
