Yeah, these foods are perfectly fine for those of us w/ thyroid issues to eat. :)

"Let’s shatter another myth about the thyroid. Normal consumption of goitrogenic foods do NOT cause goiter (consuming large amounts of juiced goitrogens, such as cabbage juice, would not be considered normal consumption). Examples of goitrogenic foods include broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, soy, and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. The fear of goitrogenic foods is another example of how people have taken in vitro (test tube) studies using unbelievably excessive amounts of a dietary goitrogens and concluded eating any small amount of these foods can cause a goiter."

The brain is always a piece of the Hashimoto’s puzzle One thing I have learned from my readers is they are largely on their own. Rarely do conventional or alternative practitioners understand the depth of Hashimoto’s, a complex web that involves the neurological, hormone, and immune systems (we ...

"The T3-only protocol is not for everyone, and some people have had serious side effects. Inability to think and remember anything (dementia), severe hair loss, muscle wasting, bone loss (osteoporosis), and high blood sugar (diabetes) are just a few of the side effects." Lots of info on T3 and Reverse T3 here:

Reverse T3: Side Effects of T3-only (or why you need T4 too) High reverse T3 (rT3) is a “bad” thing, according to some, because rT3 “blocks” the receptors, keeping T3 out. Therefore, high doses of T3 should be taken to “clear” rT3, and because rT3 is made from T4, no T4 should be taken. ...

For those of us w/ autoimmune thyroid issues, gut health is SO important. What oils are YOU using in your diet..?

"The conventional medical community has long promoted the idea that certain vegetable oils, also known as industrial seed oils, are “heart-healthy.” The idea that these oils, which include canola, corn, peanut, safflower, sunflower, and soybean oils, are heart-healthy vegetable oils is a myth. They are only a very recent addition to the human diet, and a growing body of research indicates that they are terrible for cardiovascular health. Read on to learn about the dangers “heart-healthy” vegetable oils pose to your cardiovascular system and which fats you should choose instead to support your long-term heart health."

See below for full article from Chris Kresser.

So-called “heart-healthy” oils pose significant dangers to your cardiovascular system. Find out why, and learn which fats you should choose instead.

Three beautiful ways to practice joy this holiday season (see link for full article and links to practices):

1. Soothe your inner critic
Sometimes, we get so caught up in the idea of the picture-perfect holiday that we forget to enjoy the beauty of the season. When we let go of expectations (and ruminations about our shortcomings) and simply appreciate the moments as they unfold (in all their imperfect glory), we open ourselves up to joy. Explore this simple practice to embrace self-compassion and quiet self-criticism.

2 Don’t just gather, connect
Just getting together during the holidays isn’t enough to nourish authentic connection with your loved ones. Purposeful in the way you spend time with others. Here are four ways to add mindfulness to your next social gathering and strengthen your connection with the people you care about most.

3. Rewire your mind for moments of joy
Just like training your attention, you can deepen your ability to feel joy by cultivating it in an intentional way. The next time you notice something that makes you smile—a piece of music, a blue sky, a warm cup of tea—pause and connect with that feeling. Try this two-step practice to bring your whole heart to the present moment and spark joy.

Ever wonder what thyroid labs to ask for from your doctor? Most only test TSH and T4 - which simply doesn't give you the full picture. Here's a good list (and reasons why to ask for these tests) to get you started:

Folks often ask "what tests should I get?" when it comes to thyroid labs. Here's a good basic list to request from your doctor:

Have you had your thyroid tested properly?

Solid info from Dr. Tiffany Turner. She writes:

"These patients are not “new” to their thyroid conditions. They didn’t wake up yesterday and start feeling ill. These are people who have been fighting for years to get their health back. People who have sought out every source of information they could arm themselves with and who have had multiple different care practitioners on their health team over the years. People like you, who are already well versed in lifestyle aspects of health, and who are taking the time to read this now and learn more about achieving optimal thyroid health.

With all this effort, why then does it seem so difficult to feel better?

You’ve worked hard to feel better, so let’s unwrap this enigma right now.

We’ll start with a discussion of thyroid lab testing and close with one of the most common questions I’m asked, “when can I stop taking my thyroid medication”.

The best testing for assessing your thyroid function
The importance of screening with thyroid ultrasounds
Why the type of medication you take matters
When dosing gets confusing and what to do about it
Thyroid mimickers and thyroid troublemakers
When can you stop taking thyroid medication."

Did you know? Hashimoto's (an autoimmune disease) is most likely the cause for hypothyroidism. Not always, but in many people this is the case!

Dr. Datis Kharrazian's book, "Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms?" is still one of the best out there to gain a better understanding of thyroid issues. Learn more here:
