Today, we pause to recognize and honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+). This day which is often marked by the image of the red dress serves as a powerful reminder of those who are no longer with us, and those whose stories are still waiting to be heard.
Indigenous women and girls face disproportionately high rates of violence across Canada. These are not just statistics; they are mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties, friends, and community members. Their absence is deeply felt, and their voices matter.
The red dress has become a symbol of both loss and presence. It represents the spirits of the missing and murdered, and calls on all of us to acknowledge the ongoing impact of colonialism, systemic injustice, and silence.
As a business rooted in Alderville First Nation, we stand in solidarity with families, survivors, and advocates who continue to seek truth, justice, and healing.
So, what you can do today:
Wear red to show your support
Take time to learn about the MMIWG2S+ crisis
Support Indigenous-led organizations and initiatives
Listen to and uplift Indigenous voices
Have conversations that keep awareness alive
This is not just a day of remembrance, it is a call to action.
🕊️ We remember. We honour. We stand together.
