In honour of PCOS awareness month, we are so excited to finally launch a project that is very dear to our hearts: .and.us

PCOS & Us is a holistic healing hub that aims to educate & empower women to manage their PCOS through Lifestyle Medicine & Positive Psychology.

Up to 1 in 4 women worldwide suffer from this multi-system syndrome that can significantly impact the mental health, physical health, and quality of life of those affected.

We have been alarmed and saddened by the lack of support, understanding & empathy many women with PCOS experience from healthcare professionals worldwide. Through this, PCOS & Us was born. We hope to completely transform the way PCOS is thought about, talked about, and managed worldwide.

We will be launching a series of evidence-based programmes, webinars, support groups, and resources to help women feel equipped & confident in holistically managing their health & well-being.

We are indebted to the incredible, strong women who have helped us with our PCOS research so far, and have been central to our understanding of what this condition really needs.

Anyone in the field of Lifestyle Medicine is well accustomed to the constant curiosity & confusion as to what Lifestyle Medicine really is.

Lifestyle Medicine (LM) is a new & emerging field of medicine that focuses on preventing, managing, and at times reversing lifestyle-related chronic diseases (non-communicable diseases) that are the biggest killers of our modern day.

LM does this by using the latest evidence-based lifestyle interventions in the six areas of nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress reduction, smoking & alcohol cessation, and connection.

The aim is to work alongside conventional medical care (not replace it) to address the root cause of disease, and support patients in sustainable positive behaviour change using a personalised approach to optimise their holistic health & well-being.

Over the past few decades, fad diets and diet culture have become as prominent as ever, with the normalisation that one has to control their bodies appearance by limiting what and how much they eat. Some healthcare professionals have advocated for these restrictive diets as a management and preventative tool for the rising obesity pandemic.

Today, evidence repeatedly & strongly shows that the concept of restrictive dieting is not only ineffective for weight loss in the long-term, but causes more harm (physical, psychological & emotional) than good.

Lifestyle Medicine implements evidence-based approaches to nutrition & weight loss that are effective, stress-free, and support long-term change. These are:
• Personalised Nutrition: taking individuals needs, life, and preferences into consideration
• Focusing on the quality of calories rather than quantity
• Using science of behaviour change to help individuals build better & sustainable food habits
