The relationship between the skin and the gut isn’t completely understood, but we can try to eat a healthy diet and look after our gut microbiome.

The connection between the gut and skin is commonly referred to as the gut – skin axis. When the integrity of the gut and balance of bacteria gets disturbed, it can have a huge impact on our skin, which in turn causes skin disorders. So, an unhealthy gut not only can have a significantly impact on your health but your skin too, including breakouts of spots, dry skin, psoriasis, inflammation, eczema and rosacea.

The digestive tract and skin have a relationship, symptoms of gut health issues can vary, and the skin can be used to measure what’s going on inside the gut. Our diet is the most important factor in getting a clear complexion because the gut microbiome, the bacteria living in our digestive system and intestines influences your overall health, ultimately improving our complexion and giving us healthy skin.

The gut and skin are constantly talking, both the gut and skin have their own microbiome. They both provide a barrier to protect us against pathogens (an organism causing disease) both can break down metabolites (substances which can breakdown food chemicals or our own dead tissues) and both play host to beneficial bacteria regulating digestion and skin health.

Maintaining a healthy gut can give our skin that clear, radiant glow.
