Vegan Vogue and Vibes: Biohacking Tips for Calming Digestive Issues

Tip ~Listen To Your Gut Instincts

The rumbles are there for a reason. It could be due to being misaligned with your truest path, eating something your body might have a sensitivity to, anxiety (aka butterflies in your stomach), a signal of a deeper root symptom you've become accustomed to, accumulated stress from relationships, work, and everyday life, or a potential sign of burnout. Whatever it is, your intuition is there to guide you to healing.

The first step is to listen gently. Place your hands around your stomach area (or in yogic terms, your sacral or solar plexus chakras) and thank your body for doing what it’s supposed to do by sending you signals of pain or discomfort. Then, ask the question, "What are you trying to tell me, and how can I heal better?" Take a couple of deep belly breaths and just listen.

You'll be surprised how your subconscious mind will start constructing solutions, like prompting you towards a remedy, reaching out to a health professional for support, resting your body, or highlighting a need for a deeper dive into possible 'trauma triggers.'

In the busyness of life, we can forget that we are blessed with an inner voice and an inner knowing of our needs and how to meet them. It often requires a moment of pause and stillness. Try it for as little as 2 minutes: feel your belly, take a breath, thank your body for the signals, ask what it needs, then listen gently.

Enjoy your day!

Vegan Vogue and Vibes: Biohacking Tips for Increasing Oxytocin The Stress Reducing Hormone. Today, we connect with the Vibes of the 3Vs.

Oxytocin, also known as the social interaction and bonding love hormone, plays a huge role in helping us feel loved, like we belong, and satisfies that 'skin-thirsty' hunger. It is why mothers of newborn babies may distance themselves from their partners for a period because so much of their craving for bonding is regularly stimulated hormonally by their babies. In the past, when I've supported couples going through this phase, I would often encourage fathers: it's not always personal if you may feel neglected during this phase; that love drug can be addictive.

In an era where social media can replace this intoxicating hormone, it is so important to get out and create times to spend time with those you love. Nothing replaces the smile, the laughter, the touch, the dance, the gaze that communicates 'I care' and increases that sense of being seen and a sense of belonging. The love drug boosts all of that naturally in your biochemistry and, in turn, reduces stress, regulates your blood pressure and cortisol levels, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent, and promotes growth and healing.

This weekend, I certainly got a dose of this love drug. One of my favorite young artists came to Singapore, King Promise. And oxytocin started flowing from our group chats, sharing songs, getting excited together, getting lost in finding the venue, and of course, the crowd effect of singing in unison songs that have brought smiles to our hearts and also pulled us through some challenging times. It didn't stop there; we also had another gathering of friends the next day, catching up, dancing, and bonding.

These create opportunities to check in with each other. It's definitely a period in my life where I need to make some tough decisions about my future, and it was nice to be seen and be heard. In fact, a dear friend sent me this encouraging quote: "Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong." How apt and how timely!

It can be easy to get isolated and even get too busy with work to pause and really have a good time in your relationships. There may be gems you're missing out on, so please pause, gaze, touch, smile, dance, and let your heart give and experience this love drug that soothes, nurtures, and heals your well-being. Enjoy!

Yesterday, I spent time with my dear Rwandan brothers and sisters, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda. On the panel were HE Jean De Dieu Uwhihanganye and Jean Nepo Sibomana, a survivor of the 1994 genocide, who has been given the National Unity Award in 2022 in recognition of his contribution towards nation-building. My heart cried; we were filled with inspiration, sobered by the stories told, and left with incredible hope of the powerful impact of the 'Gacaca' traditional process gathering to heal, give, and receive forgiveness as a way of rebuilding and uniting Rwanda's communities. Let's take a moment of pause and honor silence to commemorate this time and the loss, bravery, and healing our mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters have been through. Sending love. ❤️❤️❤️
