Yesterday was a day to bring awareness and reduce stigma around mental health struggles.
The fact is, at some point in our lives, most of us will struggle with our mental health. It can feel isolating, lonely and painful (mentally, emotionally and physically), and yet 5 million people across Canada in a given year struggle (govt of Canada, 2022).
And mental health affects every aspect of life: how we feel about ourselves, our relationships with others, and how connected we feel in the community we live in.
The science shows the interconnected nature of our brain and body. You know this: when we don’t feel well our perspectives of ourselves, others, and the world are all skewed, usually more negatively. Our perceptions shifted, we feel less joy, less connected, and more receptive to emotional distress and physical ailments (from the common cold to fibromyalgia).
The good news? We humxns are resilient beings, capable of healing from even the most significant of injuries, including emotional injuries that contribute to our mental health struggles. That healing can be mediated by connection with trusted others and becoming reacquainted with our internal experience.
And perhaps that’s where I come in.
I’m excited to share that I’ve officially started my private practice Complete Counselling & Wellness. I’ve spent the past 3 years working in community as a Clinical Counsellor, supporting adults of all ages navigate challenging times and experiences. Ive helped folks process pain, acknowledge unhelpful patterns, and develop new skills to support feeling better within themselves and in relation to the people and world around them.
And now, in private practice I hope to help make mental health and wellness support available to more people across BC.
So if you or someone you know is seeking support, I’d be so happy to help. And while I can’t work with family and friends for obvious ethical reasons, I can help refer you to someone who could be a good fit for you.
So here’s to ending stigma. Here’s to ending silent struggles alone, and here’s to feeling at ease in your completeness. We can do it together. Link in bio 🌻
