Cure for Carter

Hi everyone!

I meant to make a post the other day, but we've had a lot going on lately. A quick update on Carter. His appointment was this past Thursday, as far as his counts go they continue to be amazing. His platelets are still trailing everything else, taking their sweet time to get back to normal so they're still a little low every month but this past Thursday they were higher than they've been in a very long time.

However, Carter has had a cough for a pretty long time and so we asked about it at his appointment. The doctor wants us to try giving him Zyrtec for awhile to see if maybe he's got some seasonal allergies messing up that is messing with him, but if the cough persists then he will likely have to see a specialists to get his lungs tested. According to the doctor, some of the chemos he had during treatment are known to cause long term lung problems.

Also, he told her that he's been having breathing issues while jogging for tennis and that when he does his chest starts to hurt. She said she was going to talk to the cardiologist, because again chemo he's had, one very specific chemo that is actually known to cause heart issues.

So will just have to wait and see how everything turns out. I don't think there's anything to be super worried about yet - but of course you all know we'd love your prayers that these things are just inconveniences and not something more serious.

First day of school! How crazy is it that he’s going into the 11th grade?!

Hi everyone! Carter has been doing fantastic! All of his counts have been great every month. His appointment last week he was given the okay to stop taking the last medication he was on! It’s crazy to think at one point he was seriously taking like upwards of 20 pills a day!

We would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to a Wish with Wings for granting Carter his wish to build his own gaming PC. It’s one thing he’s wanted for a long time now so this meant so much to him.

I know I’ve gotten bad about giving updates on him, but I will definitely try to do better!

Guess who got his driving permit?! He is on his way out the door with his dad to start some driving practice! Watch out world!! 😂

16 is such an exciting time for teenagers! Carter is starting his drivers ed courses! I so miss my small baby, he’s growing way too fast my mama heart 💜

Today was Carter's first appointment post chemo! It's been roughly 4 weeks since he's been off chemo and his counts were great! His nurse said it could take up to 6 months after stopping chemo to really start to feel like himself again, but since the new semester has started he joined the athletics program and has been training with the football team for off season to try and prepare for next year! He knows he's a bit behind everyone else, but he's determined to make up for lost time!!

So everyone knows that last Wednesday was a BIG day! But today is also a big day. Once Carter takes his medicine tonight it will be the LAST day he has to to take chemo! NO MORE CHEMO! I'm sure it will take some time to get to feeling completely normal again, but I'm so excited for my baby to finally be able to try and salvage what's left of his childhood. He had 3 long years robbed of it from him.

Today is the day!!! Carter just finished up his VERY LAST lumbar puncture! He will take his very lost dose of methotrexate tonight and continue on his 6MP until next Tuesday and then he will be COMPLETELY done with chemo!!!

Hey everyone!

It's been awhile since I've updated, so wanted to check in and let you know that Carter is doing well. His counts were a little low there for a few weeks so they cut back on his chemo dose. He had an appointment last week and they were back up a little so they kept his lowered dose for the time being because they didn't want to take the chance of upping it and then having his counts drop again. His next appointment isn't until the first week of the new year.

I'm not sure if I've shared this yet, but some time at the end of January he will get his VERY LAST lumbar puncture and will also have to get another bone marrow test done and then he will get to RING THE BELL!!!! No more chemo! He will still have appointments over the next couple of years to make sure he doesn't relapse, but y'all - we made it! It is so crazy to think it's been almost 3 years since we received the devastating news that he had cancer and back then this day was so far away I couldn't even begin to imagine it and now it's here

We couldn't have gotten through all this without all of you and your constant prayers. Carter has been an anomaly in so many instances throughout his treatment there is no doubt in my mind that God was with him every step of the way. Thank you all so much and if you'd like I'll continue to post updates about Carter even after treatment so you all can continue to watch him thrive.
