Letโ€™s start the New Year with a healthier lifestyle and most importantly a healthier mindset!

And yes Iโ€™m aware it isnโ€™t โ€˜simpleโ€™ for someone who is stuck in a bit of a hole to make these kind of changes but anything worth having takes a bit of workโ€ฆ

Letโ€™s start 2023 by following these baby steps ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

1. Exercise as much as possible - even a daily walk, just more movement than before๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ
2. Eat more stuff from the ground and less like a seven year old ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅฉ
3. Prioritise sleep - keep a pattern and aim for 7-8 hours where you can
4. Drink more water daily๐Ÿ’ฆ
5. Drink less alcohol๐ŸปโŒ

DO NOT attempt all these at once - too many unrealistic lifestyle changes at once will overwhelm - just one baby step at a time and..

Iโ€™ve spent most the day thinking about what my friend must have been going through on that awful day two years agoโ€ฆ

And whilst Iโ€™ll never claim lifting weights or going for a run is a cure for anything, it certainly WILL NEVER make you feel worse.

But how would you know that if youโ€™re scrolling on social media in todays world? All that gets rammed down our throats from health and fitness professionals is a vanity fest, calorie deficits and low calorie snacks at f***ing ALDI.

So if youโ€™re reading this and youโ€™re struggling firstly message me, message a friend or message a family member. Your problems are never insignificant or โ€˜stupidโ€™ and youโ€™re never a burden by talking about your struggles.

But secondly try exercising. Whatever you have going on wonโ€™t be instantly solved, but your mindset towards them might.

I know Christmas is approaching and a lot of you may be considering hitting the gym and making lifestyle changes in the New Yearโ€ฆ

So ask yourself - are you coming out of your comfort zone in the gym?
Are your last few reps with dumbbells feeling a huge struggle?

So many people will either wait until January to start exercising or halt it altogether as we approach Christmasโ€ฆ

The harsh truth is that half the people reducing steps, squats and bananas in the weekly shop in the next few months barely do anything different - a few more boozy nights and Quality Street in December but youโ€™re hardly living the life of Hugh Hefner in his prime mate.

๐™Ž๐™ค ๐™ฌ๐™๐™ฎ ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ฅ ๐™š๐™ญ๐™š๐™ง๐™˜๐™ž๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ?

If youโ€™re planning on barely doing anything as the dark months hit ask yourself these questionsโ€ฆ

Does exercise make you feel mentally better?
Does exercise make you physically better?
Does exercise improve your sleep?
Have you seen progress in your gym routine lately?

See where Iโ€™m going with thisโ€ฆ.

Can we spare a second to admire the irony that the benefits from being in the gym are probably even more beneficial in the lead up to a month where we over indulge?

Not to mention the over-indulging and mad December festivities probably only applying to maybe one week of the whole winter period?

So letโ€™s remember how exercising makes us feel. If youโ€™re only in the gym for weight loss or to burn the calories to allow you to feel less guilty eating a kebab wrap then youโ€™re probably doing it wrong. Soz. Life is too short to be in in the gym for that sole purpose.

Itโ€™s World Mental Health Day today and in my opinion exercise STILL isnโ€™t talked about enough when this conversation comes under the microscope. And Iโ€™ll be honest, it really really winds me up.

I guess I just want anyone reading this whoโ€™s maybe stressed to bits, upset or going through a bit of a rough patch to know that exercise helps.

Exercise really f***ing helps.

And because mental benefits of exercise donโ€™t sell gym memberships or juice diets I donโ€™t think enough people know that it does.

Think of your brain as a bicep. Youโ€™ll see the mental gains if you train it every week consistently and eat/sleep just the same.

Itโ€™s by no means a cure to upset, stress and tougher times but itโ€™s certainly an aid. Itโ€™s like getting the flu and rushing straight for the Lemsips and paracetamol - helpful when youโ€™re feeling like a bag of warmed up crap.

So whether itโ€™s chucking some DBโ€™s around, going on a long walk, running off your anger on a treadmill or a FREE taster session with me Iโ€™d seriously recommend it if the world feels like a 180kg barbell on your shoulders right now.

Because letโ€™s face it, if your having a bad time, an hour in the gym canโ€™t make it worse can it? Message me if and let me help if it does, youโ€™re clearly doing it wrong.
