Creative Directors Quote:
"Beyond face has provided me with the space to network with many others, study themes and topics that have inspired my practice, take ownership of certain tasks, make mistakes, achieve mini goals and learn what it means to be a theatre company that truly cares about the people they engage with. As a black artist residing in the southwest I have been able to find my voice which is something I never knew I had. I have learnt how to listen to it, and use my voice as a tool to make change and create the work I want to make. I know now where I want to go, and what I want my future to look like because they have nourished me as an artist, and given me the room to grow my confidence in a way that feels freeing for me. Beyond face don't just say they do the work, they actually do and they deeply care about their artists. Working with them has been a really rich and enlightening experience for me and I will always be eternally grateful for the lessons I have learnt and the conversations I was able to have."

Self Care & Well Being. Next Friday at 6:00pm, join us for a FREE Shiatsu & Qi Gong workshop! Come and explore the ancient art of Shiatsu & Qi Gong and learn some body work practices for wellbeing, ease and relaxation.

Both practices have their roots in Chinese medicine and work with cultivating the natural energy flow and interconnection of our bodies with this abundant earth. Both help us to stay balanced, grounded and in harmony. Energy is always present, we just have to learn to harness it!

Shiatsu is a healing body work, using pressure, that works on the meridians, energy lines, within the body system to restore health and treat specific disease. It is done fully clothed and we learn to listen to our own bodies and self-regulate through it.

Qi Gong consists of simple exercises that involve movement and stillness within the comfort of your body range. We let go of trying and simply see what is there, explore and become aware of what movement is possible and listen within to the internal Qi (energy) state.

All are invited, no matter what age or ability. Both can be learnt by anyone. Participants will go away from this workshop having learnt some techniques for self-care and wellbeing, some acupressure points and self-Shiatsu massage.

Sandhya Dave is a Body Psychotherapist who has been in practice for 22 years. She runs her private practice in Central Exeter, works as a trauma informed practitioner for Devon R**e crisis and is the creator of Resilient Roots, a safe space for People of Colour. Her work takes hers into schools and the community running wellbeing workshops. She has set up Devon Diversity Consultants leading on anti-racism training and diversity consultancy with organisations. She also offers restorative justice mediation. Sandhya believes in the necessity of wellbeing to be at the heart of all decision making to enable people to move beyond surviving to full potential thriving.

BE ACTIVE !
Research suggests that physical activity...
• reduces stress and helps us sleep better
• helps us to manage our weight
• helps keep our heart strong and reduces our blood pressure

Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety across all age groups.
Exercise is essential for slowing age-related cognitive decline and for promoting well-being.
But it doesn’t need to be particularly intense for you to feel good - slower-paced activities, such as walking, can have the benefit of encouraging social interactions as well providing some level of exercise.

Be Active, Give to Yourself, Take Notice & Connect. Next Friday at 6:00pm, join us for a FREE Shiatsu & Qi Gong workshop! And next Sunday at 2:00pm, we welcome all men of colour to attend our Men's Group; a safe space to hang out, connect and be heard.

This workshop will be held by facilitator Sandhya Dave, a Body Psychotherapist who has been in practice for 22 years. More information coming soon, stay tuned!

Our men’s group offers a safe space, emotional support, and practical suggestions about challenges, concerns, or experiences common amongst men of colour. We shall be able to explore and reflect more on the unique pressures that affect us and our mental health and wellness. We can gather together to talk over a range of issues affecting us including and not limiting us to questions of race, purpose, belonging, and much more. Our workshop will be held by experienced facilitators Nev Connor and Chukes Maxwell, from ethnically diverse backgrounds with lived experience.
