Dr. Jessica Jackson I am a psychologist that will help you heal through culturally responsive therapy.

I am a passionate practitioner-scholar-advocate in the field of counseling psychology. I divide my time between clinical practice, public speaking and advocacy, and scholarly writing and research. I deliver culturally competent evidence-based treatments to adult clients with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems, such as anxiety, stress, depression, and relationship problems. I regularly provide local and national workshops, seminars, and webinars on culturally responsive psychological treatment.

Two weeks ago I had the honor of joining some amazing colleagues around the world to talk about mental health patient advocacy at Boehringer Ingelheim Global Mental Health Community Summit in Wiesbaden, Germany.

I learned so much about global mental health policy, data collection needs, and govt healthcare infrastructure differences. I was so impressed by the work of fellow panelist Christine Sakdalan Åsa Konradsson-Geuken, Dixon Chibanda & Professor Hong Ma about the importance of data in championing minds and transforming systems. focus in mental health is the future.

I was especially touched by so many personal stories and the intentional way lived experience was woven throughout the summit.

Thank you for the invite Allie Freitas Vanessa Pott Semêdo & Roi Shternin🎤 and for allowing me to share about Mental Health America ‘s screening program!

It was a special pleasure to join Dawn Thomsen Brandie Nonnecke, PhD & Daniel Weiss in conversation on a panel.

When conversations about the future of mental health are happening. I’m glad that policy is a part of the conversation.

Thank you so much Dr. Zainab Okolo, LCMFT for inviting me to attend and share my thoughts.

In January 2020, I officially became a licensed psychologist. I had just finished postdoc in 2019 and stepped into a faculty role right as the world shut down. That first year shaped the trajectory of my career in ways I never could have imagined.

In psychology, we’re considered early career for the first 10 years. Yet somehow, these past 5 years have felt like more than double that (lol).

I’m deeply honored to be awarded the 2025 Early Career Psychologist Achievement Award in year 5 of my journey from Committee on Early Career Psychologist (CECP).

I carry so much gratitude for the mentors, colleagues, friends, and family who have guided me, poured into me, celebrated with me, and laughed with me along the way. If you’ve been a part of this journey in any way, Thank you!

Less than 5% of psychologists in the U.S. are Black. As a Black woman, often the first, only, or different in the spaces I enter, I’m proud of the work I’ve done to not only show up, but to create change. My mama has always encouraged me not to leave a space the same as it was when you got there. That lesson guides me every day.

On my desk sits a small sign that reads: “Remember why you started.” My family, my community, representation, and a deep care for the human experience remain my reasons.

Had such an amazing time at the Initiative this week with the AugMend Health team! It was my first time and I left yesterday feeling energized about the work ahead!

Highlights were hearing from the President Sirleaf & meeting Stacey Abrams (I got to talk fiction books with her and fan girled so hard!)

I left reminded that when we build products and services in mental health from a global lens, we set up a pathway to reach far more people. You can only sustainably scale with impact when you consider the resources of all communities

Dr. Ambrose & I presented on “Overcoming Battiers & Ethical Considerations” and I’m still reflecting on the work that is needed for us to create a mental health ecosystem that allows for all safety, efficacy & innovation.

Also, special shoutout to all the Mental Health America partners I got to connect with in-person in San Diego!

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis in this country, and understandably, people are turning to whatever resources are accessible to them to seek support... We need to acknowledge that this is how people are using [chatbots], and that some people are finding them helpful.”

To be clear, I don’t believe AI is a substitute for professional care provided by a human, but I do think that it could be part of a stop-gap support system. We can’t dictate how people will use technology, but we can work towards making the technology safer for all to use.

Thank you Jessica Lucas & for allowing me to share my thoughts!

Still reflecting on such a great exchange of ideas at American Psychological Association convention a few weeks ago!

The panel on opportunities, risks and priorities of & led by Renee Schneider, Ph.D. was so fun to be a part of. I learned so much about the amazing work John Torous, MD MBI & Shannon Wiltsey Stirman are doing. It was such a treat to have the cross functional insights of Daniel McDuff.

Grateful for the opportunities to meet new people, connect with friends and colleagues & be amongst my people 🫶🏾
