Last week American Psychological Association released “Ethical guidance for AI in the professional practice of health service psychology” developed in collaboration with APA’s Mental Health Technology Advisory Committee, APA staff and psychologist across various board/committees of governance. Please share widely with your networks. We recognize this document will need to evolve in real time, so feedback is appreciated.
This guidance offers a starting point—not a prescription—for ethically integrating AI into clinical practice based on APA’s code of ethics. While a broader systems approach is urgently needed, this framework equips psychologists to critically evaluate emerging tools and align them with the values that ground our work. My hope is that others will build upon it, evolving how we practice with both innovation and integrity.
