Cognitive load theory and issues of working memory greatly impact our work as health professionals and our learners - in the hospital, many are familiar with the struggles caused by the extraneous load of dealing with page interruptions, alarm fatigue, inefficiencies of working with EMRs, etc.

This interesting article highlights how we now may be struggling more in our daily lives with cognitive load during the - perhaps we need to give more thought now to the additional impact this pandemic is now having on cognitive load both in clinical care and on the teachers and learners in these settings.

Cognitive Load Theory provides a useful framework for understanding the different ways the pandemic could be playing havoc with your mental function.
