When you are stressed, your body kicks off a survival mode. For instance, it increases secretion of certain hormones. This is because your body thinks you have used up more than you should in such a short time, and it needs to come to your aid. One of such hormone is CORTISOL also called 'Stress hormone'.When you are stressed, your body kicks off a survival mode. For instance, it increases secretion of certain hormones. This is because your body thinks you have used up more than you should in such a short time, and it needs to come to your aid. One of such hormone is CORTISOL also called 'Stress hormone'.

Cortisol causes increased levels of insulin, which in turn drops your blood sugar, and you begin crave sugary, fatty foods.

So instead of a salad or fruit bowl, you're more likely to go for cookies, fries and chicken, pizza etc.

Also, when you are stressed, eating can be a source of solace and can lower stress.

Practice mindful eating. Focusing on what you're eating—without distractions—may help lower stress, promote weight loss, and prevent weight gain.

Keep a food journal. Paying attention to your eating habits can help you gain control over your food consumption.

The bottom line is; More stress = more cortisol = higher appetite for junk food = more belly fat
