The food pyramid has officially been flipped!
The new 2025–2026 Dietary Guidelines - https://cdn.realfood.gov/DGA.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com mark a big shift in how we think about food.
✔️ Ultra-processed foods are finally being called out as a health risk
✔️ Real, minimally processed foods are taking center stage
✔️ High-quality protein is now emphasized at every meal
There’s also growing recognition of a biological definition of food:
Food should sustain life, support repair, and provide true nourishment. If it doesn’t do that… is it really food?
One important piece still needs more attention: insulin spikes.
Every time we eat—healthy or not—insulin rises. Healthy food choices help prevent insulin resistance, but for many people, how often we eat matters just as much as what we eat.
While seed oils and industrial starches weren’t specifically highlighted, this newly inverted food pyramid is a huge step in the right direction—with real impact ahead for schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and more.
Change takes time—but this shift is now official. I’m so excited that the conversation is changing and that the truth is finally prevailing.
