I married my abuser 20 years ago. I was young, loved him, and loved the idea of marriage. His abuse occurred before our marriage and it confused me so much that ignoring it and moving on became a coping mechanism.

Once married, his abuse shattered our honeymoon and followed us into our new home as we started our marriage. It continued for 2 years.

I prayed to at work asking for clarity about my situation. My husband tracked my coming and going so seeking outside help would have been difficult. I didn't even confide with my friends or family.

One morning at the photocopier, I felt a hard tug on my ponytail which quickly pulled my face up and affixed my eyes on a flier my director Ken Barnwell posted stating the Company offered private inhouse counseling with a licensed therapist during Company hours. I looked behind me and in seeing no one standing there, knew God was telling me what I needed to do.

Meeting with the in my office building while at work helped me realize my truth, make decisions, and find tools to help me exit my marriage as safely as possible. I have no doubt that the program saved my life.

I urge companies to consider adding this offering for their employees. You never know what private battles one is fighting 🙏

💚 I had planned to eat protein & veggies for dinner, but didn't feel like preparing it nor eating it by the time dinner rolled around.

🤎 I felt like having half a bagel with sliced banana, peanut butter, honey, and flax seed on top so I ate that instead. I didn't feel like having the whole bagel so I put the unused half in the freezer.

❤️ I grabbed a few Starbursts as a treat afterwards.

🧡 I'll eat my veggies and protein tomorrow because I do love them and look forward to enjoying them.

💜 I feel satisfied, joyful, balanced, and well.

💙 This is how intuitive eating works and it took me a long time to get here.

While I'm an advocate for a fit lifestyle, I caution all to watch for the signs of exercise addiction.

I was an exercise addict during and in the years after my abusive marriage. My addiction utilized the same irrational thinking my food behaviors had.

I worked till exhaustion. I criticized sessions that didn't have me soaked in sweat and hardly able to move. I documented every session and closely monitored calorie burn. I went crazy if something interfered with my workout (which, there was at least 2 a day).

You are hurting your body with too much exercise. Read this, talk to your doctor.
