A life hack, saying no, quantifying your resume, and more by Warren Buffett, business magnate and investor:

The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything. As you advance in your career, it's important to set boundaries and prioritize your time, energy, and commitments.

A few notes from me:

• Early in your career, be a 'yes' person. Expose yourself to as much as possible so you get more data points to figure out what you want.

• But as you climb the career ladder, say 'no' more. Say no to things that aren't a priority for you, meetings you don't need to be in, or events you don't want to attend. Protect your time and focus.

• Every time you say yes to something, you're saying no to everything else you could have done with the time instead.

• Yes, opportunities come from unexpected places. But, not every opportunity is a golden ticket. Try to identify the time-wasters and energy-drainers disguised as opportunities.

Will you win in tomorrow’s world?

In 2023, the world of work is moving at breakneck speed.

Things that gave you an edge 5 years ago are now ‘table-stakes’, and anyone not paying attention gets left behind.
So, which strategies will you need to survive & thrive?

A McKinsey study found that knowledge workers spend 28% of their day managing email. And an additional 20% tracking down colleagues for updates.

Do those two things, and you regain half your time and focus. It’s that simple.
If you’re thinking… “Simple? I don’t think so…”

🔎 Know who owns what. With clear real-time task assignments, tracking down project owners becomes a thing of the past.

📧 Automations that notify people for you. Spend less time sending constant follow-up emails and more time being productive.

🎯 Improved team communication with everyone working in one place. Share up-to-date files and updates in one place, reducing the need for endless email threads.

No more distractions. Just meaningful, productive work for you and your team.

For Future:

How to increase your TQ and stay ahead for the future of work-

It’s no secret that the world is changing.
In an article I read the other day, they estimated that AI is going to replace 85 million jobs in the US alone by 2025. And in Japan, 49% of the workforce will be automated in 10-20 years.

So from where I’m sitting, it looks like we’re on the brink of the biggest revolution of work in history.

But it’s not all doom and gloom.
Because the same article estimated that for the 85 million jobs replaced by AI, 97 million would be created.

What does this mean for our careers?
Well, whereas previously we needed smarts (IQ) & emotional intelligence (EQ) to succeed, in the coming years we’re going to need a third skill-set:
TQ, or “technology quotient”. In this 'new' age, your knowledge of tech is only going to become more important.

So today’s , I thought I’d share a few tips to help you increase your TQ. Let’s get started.

🏋️ Master the tools you use right now
The most successful basketball coach in history, John Wooden, started every season by teaching his players how to put on their socks.

Because if you don’t put on your socks right, you get blisters. If you get blisters, you don’t train hard. And if you don’t train hard, you lose basketball games.
Take the same “master-the-basics” approach with technology.

List out the tools you use regularly and ask, “am I using this tool to its full potential?”
For example, do you really know how to do a Google search? Can you use the AND, OR, and “ “ functions? If not, start there (read this article for details). Being great at Googling things is a great example of TQ.

📈 The 1% rule

Another basketball story:

In 1985, after an extremely hot start to the season, people were calling the Los Angeles Lakers ‘the most talented team in history’. But then they floundered, and didn’t even make it to the NBA finals.
Fed up of hearing how ‘talented’ his team was, head coach Pat Riley asked his players something very simple for next season:

“Get 1% better.”

What happened? Most players improved far more than 1%.
Do the same with your career. Every week, sit down and ask yourself, “How can I be 1% more efficient with the technology I use?”
Even if you did only become 1% more efficient every week, you’d be 67% more efficient by the end of the year. That's what I try to do with this email btw — I try to make you better 1% each week so your career is seventy times better off in one year.

🧭 Take a leaf out of Batman’s book
In Batman Begins, mob boss Carmine Falcone tells a young Bruce Wayne a lesson he never forgets:
“ This is a world you don't understand.
And you always fear what you don't understand.”

So Bruce spends the next seven years in the criminal underworld, understanding it, purging his fear and learning how to fight it.
Do the same with technology that scares you.

If you’re afraid of AI, make an effort to understand it. How does it work? What can it do? What can’t it do?
Only then can you take advantage of it, or protect your career against it.

🧊 Search for, and learn from the best
It’d be nice if our jobs gave us all the teaching we need. But with tech changing so fast, your company’s probably figuring out just like you are!
To master these tools, pay attention to unconventional sources outside of work. This newsletter might be one external source (I'll share more tips how to use AI in due course), but you've got to look elsewhere too.

Well, I hope these help you increase your TQ. If they do give you something to think about and you liked the topic, hit reply with a quick yes. The response I get helps me figure out if I should dig deeper into topics like these or not.

Life Path by Tim Urban

A few takeaways:
1. We think a lot about those black lines (the past), forgetting that it’s all still in our hands. Look at all that green.
2. You never know where the path you take will end up. Sometimes, the paths we wish we took don't eventually turn out to be that great. They may have seemed good at the time, but we rarely consider the longer-term consequences.
3. Often times, the steps you take never make sense until you connect the dots looking backward.

How to network internally by CEO Marissa Mayer:

I always did something I was a little not ready to do. I think that's how you grow. When there's that moment of 'Wow, I'm not really sure I can do this,' and you push through those moments, that's when you have a breakthrough.

A few takeaways from me:

1. Nobody ever feels 100% ready. The most successful people you know have doubts and fears, just like you. What sets them apart is their willingness to act despite those feelings.

2. Identify one area of your job that scares you a little. And commit to tackling it head-on. Whether it's public speaking or taking more ownership on a project, facing that fear will help you grow professionally.

3. You'll probably mess up at some point. But that's the point. It's how you learn. Embrace the possibility of failure.

Career Tips in 2023 from

Today's pick-me-up is from Steve Jobs:

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever."

This is one of my favorite quotes of all time. A few takeaways:

1. We can't always predict how our decisions will play out, and that's okay. As we look back, things will start to make sense, and the dots will connect. So, trust the process and your gut — it doesn't need to make sense at the time.

2. My first encounter with AI at an old job didn't seem significant at the time, but it laid the foundation for Resume Worded. Think about something you're happy with right now - chances are, it wasn't part of some master plan, but it worked out.

Why Do We Cry?: 8 Reasons and Benefits of Crying

Crying can occur when you’re in physical or emotional pain or when you experience an unexpected life event. Many mood-altering benefits occur when you cry.

Crying is a typical part of the human experience. Some people rarely cry, and others cry more frequently. There are many reasons why someone might cry; often, it can be relieving to express sadness, joy, anger, or frustration.

If you feel better after a good cry, this may be because crying releases endorphins and can reduce stress levels. There are many benefits to crying instead of holding your tears in. The science behind crying may surprise you.

Your mental health can be impacted if you hold back tears or try hard not to cry. But crying isn’t a sign of weakness, and there are many reasons why crying can benefit you.

1. To signal distress

One reason why people may cry is to signal distress. This is often seen in babies and infants who don’t have the words to vocalize what they need.

For example, in babies, crying often signals that they are hungry, in pain, or have dirty diapers. Crying may also signal physical or emotional distress in children, adults, and adolescents.

Feelings of being overwhelmed, stressed out, or angry are common reasons someone may cry in distress. Crying can also occur when you’re frustrated about a situation or have an unexpected life event.

2. Grief and coping with loss

Grief is one of life’s inevitable stressors you will face at some point in your lifetime. Grief can be overwhelming and make it challenging to complete your daily activities.

Many people cry to express their grief, which can be a typical part of the grieving process. Not everyone can cry when they experience a loss, and they may use other outlets to express emotion, like journaling or joining a support group.

There are many similarities in the experiences of losing both a loved one and a pet. Research suggests that people have similar language in online forums when talking about the loss of a human compared to talking about a pet.

They also suggest similarities in grief symptoms, such as sadness and crying, in both types of losses.

3. Depression

Depression is different than sadness, as sadness is an emotion, and depression is a mental health condition. But one symptom of depression is frequent crying.

Speaking to a mental health professional may be helpful if you’re frequently crying. By getting professional help, you can learn about your emotions and receive treatment for depression.

4. Physical injury

When you’re physically hurt, and in pain, crying is a natural response. Physical injury can signal that you’re in distress and need or want another person to help you.

When you’re in physical pain, your body becomes more stressed and releases cortisol, the stress hormone. Crying can release cortisol and help your body recover from the pain you experienced.

5. To release endorphins

If you feel better after a good cry, this may be because of a release of endorphins. Endorphins are feel-good chemicals that can impact your physical and mental health.

When you cry, your tears can also lower cortisol. Older 2014 researchTrusted Source suggests that one mechanism of crying that helps you self-soothe is the release of endorphins, such as oxytocin and cortisol, which can help improve mood.

6. To express joy

Have you ever cried happy tears? For some people, the experience of joy produces tears. This is commonly seen during positive life events such as a child’s birth or weddings.

Crying doesn’t have to be reserved for times when you are in physical or emotional pain. Expressing happy tears when you’re happy is healthy.

7. To connect with others

People tend to feel more empathetic to those who cry. A comprehensive research study of 7,007 participants found that those exposed to faces with and without tears were more likely to support those with tearful faces.

The researchers propose that crying could be a form of social bonding for some, as those seen as tearful are viewed as warm. They also note that those who observe people crying often feel connected to people who are crying, which might increase social connection.

8. It can help your eyes

Crying has benefits for your eyes as well. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), tears protect your eyes, shielding them from dirt, debris, and irritants.

Tears can help lubricate your eyes and protect them from bacteria. So crying is a way to help ensure your eyes stay healthy.

9 Things to Know About Asthma

check circle By amudha_hospitals_pvt_ltd

Last updated: April 10, 2023

1. Asthma is a chronic disease that affects the lungs and the respiratory passageway of the patients. The airways inflame and fill up with mucus. They could constrict or dilate to an uncomfortable degree. Here are nine things to know about the disease:

2. Anyone can get it at any point in life. There is no set age at which the disease manifests itself. Those who are obese are more susceptible to get it as are those who have someone suffering in the family from asthma. Genetic factors also play a pivotal role.
If someone gets asthma in childhood, they cannot outgrow it as an adult. The condition is forever. One can learn how to manage it better but curing it completely is out of the question. The asthma symptoms for children are intermittent while those for adults are more persistent.

3. Nonasthmatics live as long as those who have mild asthma. This means that one must make every effort to not let asthma reach more severe stages so as to live longer. Nip the situation in the bud to increase longevity and add to your quality of life.
One of the biggest asthma causes is cigarette smoke. So if there is someone who smokes around you or if you smoke yourself, that is a good enough reason to stop. Children are most vulnerable to passive smoke to ensure that no one lights up a cigarette around them.

4. Boys are more susceptible to develop asthma. In fact, research says that they are likely to develop this condition twice more than girls. Tests for allergy and bronchial responsiveness show more positive results for them than for girls.

5. Dust, molds, and pets are all triggers for asthma attacks. People who have asthma have to clean up their surroundings with more zeal and effort as the smallest of these allergens can have potentially fatal consequences. Some people who suffer from asthma also do not take to perfumes very well. This is because some of these perfumes or sprays, even of the household variety, can irritate their air passageways.

6. Stress can worsen asthma. This has a very interesting explanation. Stress creates a physiological response in the body. When we have high-stress levels, the body directs all resources to help in survival so the first casualty is our immune system. Learn to manage your stress levels to reduce complications related to asthma.

7. Coughs and colds have a more debilitating effect on asthma patients. Both the diseases, which do not put the rest of the population out of gear, can turn out to be battles between life and death for asthma patients. This is because their lungs are already weakened by recurrent asthma attacks and coughs and colds inflame their airways earlier than they would in nonasthmatics.

8. Stock up on cough and cold medications to keep any emergencies at bay.

9. Asthma patients must get their annual flu shots. Getting vaccinated against flu and other diseases like pneumonia ensures that one avoids serious complications. Viral infections can be a trigger for an asthma attack.
