Let’s continue with our next letter: F for FEVER.

Every child will almost certainly have a fever at some point, as it is a natural immune response to fight off viruses and bacteria.

While a very high fever should not be taken lightly and always discussed with your child’s doctor, lowering a fever with medications might not always be beneficial. That’s because it might prevent the body from dealing with the problem which has caused the temperature to rise in the first place.

That’s why we would like to share with you a few natural remedies that I often use to help my little patients lower their fever. And the great thing about them is that they can help boost the immune system to fight off the underlying cause.

So watch out for our next posts 😊

Please note: no matter if you apply natural remedies to help your child with fever or not, you should always consult a doctor whenever your child developes a fever!

EAR INFECTION PART 4 😊 ONION WRAP

As already mentioned in one of my previous posts, Onions are an all-purpose remedy, and they are readily available.
Onions have antiviral and antibacterial properties which help to fight infections and they soothe pain almost immediately. Which makes it the perfect remedy for earache/infection.

All you need is
·       1 onion
·       Washcloth
·       Scarf or warm hat

Roughly chop the onion into small pieces and either steam or warm them up in a pan/ microwave (without any oil)  but do not burn them.

Fill the onion into a thin washcloth and secure the ends.

Place the washcloth on top of the ear and make sure that it covers the skin in front of the ear, as well as the bones (Mastoid) behind the ear. Make sure the onions are not too hot. Then wrap a warm scarf around it or put a warm hat over it to keep it in place and warm.

It can be used as early as 6 months and repeated several times a day!

Ear Infection Part 3😊 ACUPRESSURE ON YOUR CHILD´S HANDS

This acupressure point is used for a wide range of problems but one of the reason why I love to use this point on my little patient´s is because this point is known to relieve all kinds of pain, stress, and discomfort.

How to find it!
The point is located in the fleshy webbing slightly above the end of the fold between your child’s index finger and thumb.

How often should you use it!
Gently press and massage the point up to 10 seconds several times during the day.

Ear infection Part 2😊 MASSAGE AROUND YOUR CHILDS AFFECTED EAR!!

Children with ear infections very often develop nodules and stiffness around the ear that is usually painful on pressure. This is most likely associated with a blockage of the lymphatic drainage! That’s why it is important to massage around the ear to soften and break up congested and hardened areas as this can help improve the drainage.
Moreover, this area also comprises several acupressure points which are useful for ear problems.

The 1st home remedy to speed up your child's recovery from an ear infection are light strokes from the child’s ear downwards along the neck to the clavicle. As already mentioned in our last post, ear infection causes inflammation, swelling and an accumulation of fluids behind the ear drum. In order to drain the fluids, the lymphatic system needs to be activated and the downward strokes aim to do exactly that. Moreover, they can also help reduce inflammation, phlegm and mucus.

You can apply up to 10 strokes several times a day!

Lets move to letter E on our common childhood ailments. The letter E stands for EAR INFECTION!

Ear infections are one of the most common conditions in early childhood and are usually caused by Bacteria or viruses. The infection causes inflammation and swelling of the eustachian tube. In young children the eustachian tube is more horizontal, shorter, and narrower than in adults, which means that it easily gets congested and blocked which causes pressure and pain.

Knowing that you child suffers from an ear infection can be difficult. So, watch out for the following signs!

·tugging or pulling at the affected ear
·continuous crying and irritability
·difficulty sleeping
·slight hearing loss or lack of response to auditory cues
·Fever
·Fluid draining from the ear
·Possibly loss of balance

Most babies/kids will recover at home within a few days. However, a middle ear infection can last up to a couple of weeks. That’s why I would like to share a few home remedies to ease you little one’s discomfort. Coming up in my next posts😊

Please note: high fever, severe pain, or bloody or pus-like discharge from the ears require immediate medical attention!

The next home remedy for your child’s diarrhea is Acupressure.

In small babies and children, the digestive system is still developing and digestive issues such as diarrhea can easily occur. The Acupressure point shown in the video belongs to the Spleen meridian and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Spleen is responsible for a healthy digestive system. It also regulates the quantity and quality of blood circulation in order to provide the body with vital energy, strong muscle tone and tissue.  So, this particular acupressure point not only helps to balance, harmonize, and improve your child's digestive system, it also aims to improve your child's appetite and it helps to build a strong immune system.

To find the point slide from your child's big toe along the inside of the foot until you feel a bony prominence. Right after the bony prominence there is a little depression. The Acupressure point is located in that depression. Press and massage the point for a couple of seconds.

Please note: If your child's diarrhea was caused from ingesting something poisonous or from a virus, you should not try to stop the diarrhea because the body is trying to get rid of the toxins! It’s better to allow the body to detox on its own and you should go see a doctor if necessary.

The next home remedy for your Childs Diarrhea is Blueberry tea.

Please note, we are talking about dried blueberries. Fresh blueberries would have the exact opposite effect.

So what’s so special about dried blueberries? First, of all, dried blueberries have an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect on the body. Moreover, due to their astringent effect, they can help ease your child’s upset tummy. So, when you use them to make a tea, that tea is the perfect remedy for diarrhea! Also, another great feature of blueberry tea is that it is suitable for newborns.  However, always check with your doctor or health visitor first, before offering your baby tea in addition to breast or formula feeds! That’s because the intake of water – next to breast or formula milk – should be strictly limited to avoid water intoxication!

Now , let’s have a look at how to prepare the tea!

Pour 5 ounces, which is about 150ml, of cold water over 1.5 tbls of dried blueberries. Then bring to boil. Reduce to low heat and then simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain the tea through a sieve and offer your baby the lukewarm tea 3 times a day according to the following table:

up to 12 months: 3 x 25 ml ( 3 x 0.85 ounces)

from 1 year: 3 x 75ml ( 3 x 2.5 ounces)

NO SUGAR; NO SWEETENERS; NO HONEY!!

So the first remedy to help your child's diarrhoe is Carrot soup. Carrot soup is particularly effective when your child’s diarrhea is caused by bacteria. That’s because when you cook carrots, tine-tiny sugar molecules are being released. These molecules have characteristics which are similar to intestinal mucosa. And so, the bacteria will attach to those molecules and eventually be discharged naturally.
What you need😊

Ingredients:
• 500 grams of carrots
• 1 liter of water
• 3 grams of salt

Step 1
Peel and chop 500 grams of carrots!
Step 2
Put them into a pot and add 1 liter of water. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat and let the soup simmer for at least 1.5 hours (the longer the better).
Step 3
Afterwards, add everything to a blender. Blend the soup until you get a smooth consistency!
Step 4
Afterwards, add just enough water to have 1 liter of soup. If you do not have sterilized water, boil the water first and let it cool down to get rid of all germs.
Step 5
Finally, add 3 grams of salt and give it a good mix!
Step 6
Serve warm

Enjoy

Lets move to the letter D of our ABC of the most common childhood Ailments. The letter D stands for Diarrhea.

Helping a baby with diarrhea is not the easiest thing to do because not every type of diarrhea is the same and not every remedy is suitable for babies at all ages. Luckily, there are great natural home remedies available which can help relieve your child’s diarrhea. So, watch out for my following posts…

Another great way to help a baby p**p fast are baby constipation foods.

However, there are two problems: First of all, you can obviously only feed your baby constipation foods if you have introduced solids already. The other thing is, the most effective foods that can help a baby p**p almost instantly, usually contain lots of sugar. And the problem with that is that they will almost always cause other gastrointestinal issues such as bloating, gas etc.
For example: some websites promote dried dates to help a baby with constipation. And I am sure that dried dates would help your baby p**p more or less straight away. What they don’t tell you though is that 100 grams of dried dates can contain up to 68 grams of sugar. That’s as much as 17 sugar cubes. Sure, your baby won’t eat a full 100 grams of dates, right? However, it can still be enough sugar to throw your baby’s digestion completely off balance.
So if you want to help your baby p**p with baby constipation foods, you need to consider your baby’s age and feed your baby foods which are appropriate given your baby’s age.

Below are the 10 best constipation foods subject to your baby’s age!
·       sweet potato (from 6 months)
·       papaya (from 6 months)
·       pears (from 6 months)
·       beets (from 8 months)
·       kale (from 8 months)
·       broccoli (from 8 months)
·   cabbage (from 8 months
·       Beans (kidney beans, blackeyed peas and Aduki beans) (from 10 months)
·       chia seeds (from 12 months)
·       prunes (from 12 months) Yes, prunes do contain lots of sugar, but now that your baby is 12 months of age, they won’t do that much harm as long as you limit the number of prunes that you feed your baby!)

By the way, if you want to know more about which foods can relieve constipation in babies and also how to prepare them, check out our website and older posts on Instagram where we list some great recipes for baby constipation subject to your baby’s age of course.

BABY CONSTIPATION MASSAGE

Constipation is the number one problem in new-borns, babies and toddlers. Because of that, many parents are looking for constipation medicine for kids, baby stool softener, baby laxatives or glycerine suppositories for babies.

However, such baby constipation remedies are neither necessary to relieve constipation, nor particularly beneficial for your infant or toddler, as they often come with side effects. For example, stool softeners and laxatives often make infants and toddlers bloated. In other words, they can replace one gastrointestinal issue by another.

Moreover, such baby constipation remedies only focus on relieving constipation. However, they fail to deal with the underlying problem.
After all, there is a reason why your new-born, baby or toddler is constipated.

Therefore, an efficient remedy for constipated babies or toddlers must not only provide short-term constipation relief! It must also deal with the underlying issue! Above are a few techniques who do exactly that! They aim to relieve your child’s constipation while balancing her digestive system!

The next super-effective home remedy for chickenpox is an oat meal bath.

Oatmeal contains anti-inflammatory compounds which can reduce inflammation and the intensity of the itchiness. Moreover, “colloidal oats” can moisturize your childs skin and their high levels of starch soothe and protect the skin.

What you need:
Colloidal oatmeal is readily available to purchase however if you prefer, you can also make it yourself.

How to prepare the bath:
1. Add 1 cup of oatmeal to a blender and grind it until you have a fine powder!

2. Check the consistency of the powder, by adding about 1 tablespoon of oatmeal to 1 cup of warm water!  Stir the mixture thoroughly! The powder should turn the water into a milky color and it is supposed to feel silky. If most of the powder sinks to the bottom of the glass, you need a finer degree of grinding.

3. Fill the bathtub with warm water and pour in the oatmeal! Stir the water with your hand to make sure the powder is evenly distributed and make sure no oatmeal powder sinks to the bottom of the tub! Again, the water is supposed to feel silky.

4. Your child is supposed to take a bath for about 10-20 minutes. When finished, use a soft towel and pat your child dry! Avoid rubbing the skin!

Rinse the bathtub well after using it! The oatmeal-water mixture can make it very slippery!

The next home remedy that may help sooth your child’s itchy chickenpox lesions are chamomile compresses.

Chamomile has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and may therefore be helpful to reduce the irritation, swelling and itchiness which is caused by chickenpox.

What you need:
2-3 chamomile tea bags or
2-3 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers.

How to prepare it:
Put the chamomile into a pot and pour about 250 to 300ml of hot (not boiling water) over the chamomile flowers! Cover the pot and let the tea cool down! Once cooled down, dip a clean cotton pad or a washcloth into the tea and apply it to the itchy lesions!

Repeat the process a few times during the day!

Chickenpox
Lets move on to the letter C of our ABC of the most common Childhood ailments. The letter C stands for constipation and chickenpox. Lets start with Chicken pox.

Due to the itchiness, chickenpox can be a particularly unpleasant experience for your child. That’s because your child may not (yet) be able to understand why s/he is not allowed to scratch!

Luckily, there are lots of great natural home remedies available which can help relieve the itchiness associated with chickenpox.

The first home remedy are oak bark compresses:
Thanks to its high concentration of tannins, oak bark comes with strong astringent properties which can help soothe the affected area. It’s those astringent properties, but also its anti-septic properties which make oak bark particularly useful to help a child with itchy chickenpox lesions.

What you need:
Babies up to 12 months: 1-2 teaspoons of crushed oak bark
From 12 months onwards: 2-3 teaspoons of crushed oak bark

What you have to do:

Boil the crushed oak bark in one litre of water! Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 min! Then let it cool down! Soak a cotton wool in the liquid and apply it to the lesions three to five times per day!

A note from our founder Nathalie

I grew up in a tiny village somewhere in the Austrian alps. We had no internet, we had no smart phones, we had no convenience foods. But we also neither suffered from hay fever, nor asthma, nor celiac disease, nor any skin disease. “Hyperactivity”, “allergies” or “gluten-free” were foreign concepts, not even known to our parents.

When I look at our children nowadays, I recognize how our world has changed – a lot. While I did expect that our technological progress will make this world an even better place, I come more and more to the conclusion that today’s world – in some ways – is much worse than the world of my childhood.

How could it come so far that parents, even parents of newborns, seek my treatments for diseases which 20-40 years ago have not even been known to the human kind? Why do young children suffer from allergies so bad that they stumble over their own toys, because they can’t see? And how come that “electro sensitivity” is suddenly a thing in children?

But then again, does it really matter why it has come so far? Why wasting time with things that we can’t change anyways? The only thing that matters now is how we can improve the situation for our children. And most importantly, how we can help and protect them.
