AllieRo Yoga Teaching yogis how to weave ancient yoga philosophy into their modern-day lives

• acceptance reduces suffering • i started class this morning by acknowledging i was feeling grouchy that it was still dark. and that’s okay! i’m allowed to feel grouchy! but by becoming aware of that and accepting that there is nothing i can do to change the sun, it didn’t feel so bad. all i had to do was wait for the sun to rise.

Yoga poses need to be adapted to fit each person. Here's one of my favorite historical anecdotes that shows why each person is unique, and there will never be one yoga posture that works for all people. Give it a listen, and let me know what you think!

• present moment acceptance • being accepting of the present moment doesn’t mean you can’t make changes to your situation. it just means your making changes from a place of awareness. for example, let’s say your order something from a restaurant and you don’t like it. you COULD sit there and think things like “i wasted so much money” or “i wish i had ordered something else” or “i knew it was a bad idea to pick this place.” but would any of those thoughts be serving you? the alternative is to ACCEPT that you don’t like what you ordered and then you can have thoughts like “i can ask for my money back” or “i can see if they can bring me something else” or “i can still order from somewhere else.” not only does accepting the present moment help you find solutions to your problems, it also helps you be more content! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

• if yoga is for everybody, why do so many yoga pictures show poses inaccessible to most people? • i really want to know! if you’re posting “advanced” poses that require large amounts of strength and/or hypermobility, why are you doing that? if you’re seeing these pictures, how do you feel about them? there are no right or wrong answers because you have the free will to post what you want and feel how you feel!

• post teaching glow • no deep post to go with this one. i just wanted to share how grateful and happy i am to be able to teach yoga. so many things have changed about how i teach (the format, the pace, the purpose, the location). but the one constant has been how much i enjoy getting to share my practice with you all.

Who knew memes were such a good way to teach yoga?!? Give this a watch if you want some encouragement to see a difficult person if your life in a new light. The practice of ahimsa, or non-harm, is so much more than just refraining from physical violence. Can you think kind thoughts, even when it’s hard? Can you see people as they are in the moment, regardless of how you’ve seen them in the past? And if you do that, how does it change your experience of a moment?

• yoga teaches us what we are not just as much as it teaches us who we are • my body will change, and I will still be me. my mind will change, and i will still be me. that’s because I am not either of these things. I am the thing that is able to observe my body, my breath, and my thoughts. the practice of yoga and the practice of being present shows us that we are the observer of our life and therefore we cannot be just our bodies & minds. i know it can be a little trippy & esoteric but this is one of the main concepts I examine in my own practices & in my teaching.

• practice with me • you now have TWO options each week!
•••
✨ Morning Move | Breathe | Meditate: gentle stretches building up to standing & balancing poses, followed by breathwork & meditation. get ready for the day by moving the body & breath, and bringing awareness & focus to the mind.
✨ Sunday Slowdown: gentle stretches & restorative poses, breathwork, & meditation. intentionally rest, relax, & reset to let go of the previous week & move into the coming week with ease!

• get to know me • hi, i’m allie! i teach online yoga... but you probably already know that! so here’s 5 things you may not know about me. i’d love if you introduced yourself too!
✨✨✨
1️⃣ i have a GAZILLION hobbies that i rotate through (knitting, puzzles, reading, hiking, tending to plants, and more)
2️⃣ i can’t hold crow pose, or most arm balances, or a hand stand & i also DO NOT CARE at all
3️⃣one of my favorite conversation topics is gluten free foods & recipes (seriously, please message me about gluten free stuff!)
4️⃣ my favorite place i’ve visited is a tie between costa rica and iceland because the people were awesome and the nature was AMAZING
5️⃣ i’m on a mission to help people slow down, chill out, and have well-rounded yoga practices (move, breathe, meditate, grow!)

rest & relaxation are NEEDS, not nice-to-haves. are you being proactive about scheduling downtime? are you paying attention to the cues from your body that it’s time to slowdown? want help figuring out ways to do those things? shoot me a message and i’d be happy to coach you through it!

• get quiet • our modern day lives are full of NOISE, whether it be literal sound or the metaphorical noise that comes with being constantly connected to social media, blogs, etc... carving out time for silence & getting quiet so you can hear what your body, mind, and soul have to say is SO important. how do you find quiet? let me know in the comments! (and I’ll do the same!)

i used to teach an early morning class in a studio, and i miss teaching that time slot! what i don’t miss is having to go out to my car & drive to the studio on cold & dark mornings so I’m so excited to be offering this from the comfort of our homes and i hope this is something i can add to my regular line-up!

Yoga isn’t about changing your body. It’s about knowing that you are a part of something bigger than just your physical body & thinking mind. It’s about being able to witness your thoughts and understand that at your core, you are whole and perfect.
✨✨✨
PS - I was going to do another take because I got a little distracted in the middle, but the distraction was too cute to cut. Keep an eye out for a guest appearance from 🐶

• get grounded • these are the words that came to me as a i prepared to teach last night:

when i am grounded, i have a stable foundation upon which to build my life.

when i am grounded, i am connected to myself and the world around me.

when i am grounded, i can mindfully reflect on the past and hope for the future.

when i am grounded, i am present.

• just because you CAN, doesn’t mean you SHOULD • sure, i was able to get into some sort of half-pigeon pose and grab my foot... BUT did it feel good? it did not. my muscles felt like they were being pulled apart, i couldn’t hold steady, i probably woulda toppled over if i lifted my grounded hand. so instead i choose other options when I practice. ⬅️ swipe to see two potential options & let me know if you want to see a breakdown of other half pigeon variations!
1️⃣ from your back, cross ankle over opposite knee (you can stop here), use your hands to gently bring knee towards chest (you can also use a strap to help you reach your leg), hold for a bit & switch sides. this can be sooo much gentler & more comfortable, particularly if you’re not hypermobile
2️⃣ go like you’re going into half-pigeon, but put a rolled-up a blanket under your hips. it can take a little trial and error to get situated but it helps level the hips & provide stability

• create mindful & intentional mornings • the way you start your morning sets the course for the day. my morning routine almost NEVER looks the same but i do try to do at least one thing that sets my day off on the right foot. what are some ways that you can add mindfulness and intention into your morning? read on for some easy practices & drop your ideas in the comments!

✨ make coffee the slow way (i tried a moka pot for the first time today!)
✨ drink your coffee (or other beverage of choice) BEFORE you start work & take time to enjoy it
✨ brain dump all of the things you have to do & then come up with a plan to get them done
✨ take a few intentional breaths and/or meditate for a few minutes
✨ do something you enjoy (read, social media, whatever), just do it with intention 😁
✨ take a walk and try to make it as tech-free as possible
✨ schedule break times and meals (anyone else forget to eat sometimes?)
