At NIDE, we currently have two expert diabetologists who are living with type one diabetes themselves and can treat any type of diabetes. We are looking forward to working with more evidence-based diabetologists and endocrinologists.
Let us explain how endos and diabetologists can help manage your diabetes:
Both diabetologist and endocrinologist are physicians practising internal medicine, but their ways of treatment differ. Diabetologists are more specific to diabetes and its management, while Endocrinologists are more towards the entire endocrine system that includes Pancreas and Insulin.
The Diabetologist is an expert in the treatment of Diabetes, specialises in the research and treatment of all types of diabetes, generally coordinates between the Diabetic Educators, Nurses, Podiatrists, Ophthalmologists and Renal physicians to educate, treat and monitor a patient. Treatment usually involves medications either orally or through Insulin injections. The diabetologist’s tasks include diagnosing and treating all types of diabetes. They also treat diseases that are closely related to diabetes. A diabetologist also carries out preventive examinations with a view to the secondary diseases of diabetes.
Endocrinologists are qualified to diagnose and treat conditions like diabetes, thyroid diseases, infertility, growth issues, metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, some cancers, and disorders in the hormone-producing adrenal glands and pituitary glands. Endocrinologists specialize in glands and the hormones they produce which affect important processes that control metabolism, blood pressure, cholesterol, hunger, thirst, body temperature and more. Hormone imbalances can impact your daily life, but an endocrinologist can help you manage the imbalances to improve your quality of life.
