Did you know that s***m production is down 60% in the last 50 years and it’s projected that production will reach ZERO by 2045?
So, what is contributing to this?
We are exposed to thousands of toxins on a daily basis, from what we consume, products we use, to our environment, to the prescriptions we take. All of these HEAVILY impact our fertility levels.
But, what about stress? How does stress impact fertility?
When we are under stress, whether from external sources [ie. environment, work, consumption, product use, pharmaceuticals, our reactions, conditioned behaviors, trauma or just life in general] or internal sources [!nfection, toxin overload, chronic !llness, deficiencies, chronic prescription use, path0gens etc] our body goes into “fight or flight” mode.
Stress short circuits the luteal phase in women. Normally, as estrogen increases sharply around day 9-10 of the menstration cycle, follicle stimulating hormone decreases, spiking luteinizing hormone to get ready for one egg to drop for ovulation. During ovulation, estrogen levels and LH decrease while progesterone increases to fertilize the egg [typically at day 19-21 of cycle]. Therefore, estrogen is more dominant in the first phase and progesterone is more dominant in second phase. Progesterone is commonly called as the “feeder” for cortisol, therefore high stress levels directly impact progesterone levels.
If under stress [especially chronic], the body goes into estrogen dominance, thereby decreasing estrogen levels or causing the level to be inline with progesterone. This causes shorter cycles, spotting, bloating, acne (especially chin), water retention, irritability, headless and cramping.
In men, stress causes a decrease in testosterone, conversion to DHT or to estrogen. Higher DHT levels can cause prostate inflammation, hair growth on back, baldness, difficulty urinating or prostate pain/secretions. High estrogen causes breast tissue growth and feminization [common with anabolic steroids].
This is why managing stress, lowering internal stress levels and getting the body into PNS state as much as possible is necessary especially in our stress-ridden society.
