First of all, what’s an endocrine disruptor? Endocrine = hormones, so endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are chemicals that get in the way of the normal functioning of our hormones and hormonal systems.

Unfortunately, these chemicals are pretty abundant in our environment and the products we use on a daily basis. Some of the big sources include plastics, skincare, make-up, fragrance and cookware.

EDCs have been linked to:

❗️Hormone imbalance
❗️Autoimmune disease
❗️Gut dysbiosis
❗️Diabetes
❗️Infertility/Reproductive Issues

Now, I don’t want you to get scared and throw all your stuff away BUT finding ways to MINIMIZE exposure to these chemicals can play a key role in healing from these conditions.

It is also important for prevention even if you aren’t experiencing any of these things right now.

Again, the goal is to REDUCE, not eliminate. And it doesn’t have to happen all at once. So start with what feels easiest and least overwhelming.

Maybe you start replacing your skin care products with non-toxic alternatives as they run out. Maybe you buy a re-usable water bottle to carry around with you. Maybe you start scheduling small cleaning tasks throughout your week. Whatever makes the most sense for you. Everything helps.

Is this a topic you’d like to know more about? If yes, let me know in the comments or send me a DM!

Keeping blood sugar balanced is a foundational part of supporting hormones, gut health and mood.

Balanced doesn’t mean perfect, it means avoiding the big highs and lows that take our body on a rollercoaster 🎢 of insulin and cortisol release. The body is design to find balance, but too much time on the rollercoaster will eventually cause imbalance in other areas as the body tries to keep up!

Balancing your blood sugar doesn’t have to be complicated or stressful. And unless your have diabetes or a related condition, there’s no need to track it closely. You’ll be able to tell how you’re doing based on how you feel - more energy, better sleep, less anxiety!

Get started with these simple habits to create your foundation for nourished hormones, gut and nervous system ✨

Balanced blood sugar = balanced hormones ⚖️👌🏽

Blood sugar refers to the amount of glucose present in the blood. Your body needs to maintain a steady amount in your blood stream for energy production.

Big spikes and dips in blood sugar is stressful for the body. This is bound to happen occasionally but when it is ALL the time it WILL affect hormone production and balance as your body tries to compensate.

And that’s in addition the the above, not so desirable side effects. I’ll point out that the symptoms listed above are all also common signs of undereating - so if that’s you, let this be your sign to eat more! Eating enough will also help your blood sugar 😉

Hormone imbalance can look like PMS, acne, PCOS, thyroid issues, low libido, etc. If you struggle with any of these and the above symptoms sound familiar, stay tuned for more on balancing blood sugar later this week!

Or if you have a 🔥 question, send me a DM!

Hope you are having a long weekend full of relaxation and delicious food 🍓✨

Being intentional about slowing down and nourishing yourself is especially important during transitional times - school starting, seasons changing, etc.

What’s one way you plan to take care of yourself in the week ahead?

There are a lot of reasons to 🖤 EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) but did you know there’s actually a lot of olive oil fraud? Unfortunately much of the olive oil sold in the US is falsely labeled - either faking quality or made from a mix of lower quality oils 🤯

Whether you’re using EVOO for the taste or the health benefits (I’m here for both 🙋🏼‍♀️), you’re gonna want to invest in quality and trust your source. Choosing local is a good way to go as much of the adulterated product is imported. It also means the oil is fresher when it gets too you which optimizes antioxidant content 💥

We stumbled on a few months ago on a day trip to Ojai and brought back a few of these bottles. We also got to do a tasting of different varieties in their garden which I would highly recommend if you’re in the area!

I’m curious - did you know this about olive oil already? Do you have a favorite EVOO that you know is the real deal?

We are quick to blame the food we eat when we have digestive issues, but with chronic issues like IBS, food is only part of the picture. For this reason, cutting out foods (even temporarily, such as with low FODMAP) isn’t usually my first line of defense.

While the act of eating food (and then trying to digest it) is typically how we become alerted that something isn’t right, our gut is impacted by so much more than just what we eat! Here are some of the other things that could be effecting your digestion (and may be responsible IBS symptoms):

✅ Stress

✅ Sleep

✅ Hormones

✅ Exercise

✅ Dieting/restrictive eating

✅ Microbiome

Addressing these things before or with diet is best for sustainable symptom management AND hopefully for allowing you to keep eating more of the foods you enjoy! If you’re only modifying what you eat or eliminating foods and aren’t getting results then you definitely need to expand your focus. Try mediating, gentle exercise (yoga or walking) and prioritizing sleep, your gut with thank you 🙏🏼 🤍✨

If there’s anything I’m willing to turn on my oven for when it’s 80 degrees inside my apartment, it’s these cookies 🍪✌🏼 Ever since I first made Tahini Chocolate Chunk Cookies I’ve been convinced they’re the only dessert I’ll ever need...okay and also ice cream 🍦😉
They hit that sweet spot between cookie and brownie, plus I’ll sign up for anything with tahini ✨😍 You can find the gluten/grain/dairy free recipe on her site (I add an extra tbsp of maple syrup 🍯 but otherwise make as is.) I also added .snacks on top for a pop of color 💥💜
What do you think? Too hot to bake right now or no such thing? 🔥🤷🏻‍♀️

The last few weeks have been an exercise in accepting where I am at rather than forcing my way to where I’d like to be (a lesson I’ve been trying to learn for approx. 32 years tbh...) My productivity/creativity have been low despite wanting to take advantage of all this extra time I now have! I’ve spent a good amount of time being frustrated by this mismatch of goals vs momentum but in the end it doesn’t make me feel any more motivated. The only thing that’s really helping has been releasing my expectations and choosing 2-3 small things (sometimes they are realllllly small) that I can confidently accomplish each day and remembering that every little step forward is still progress. So whatever you are working on right now, I would encourage you to be easy with yourself and to trust that everything is unfolding exactly as it should be.

Sharing 3 (well, technically 4!) easy tips for improving your digestion on the blog today! Health begins in the gut and with all the changes to routine, plus increased stress/anxiety we're all experiencing right now yours might need a little extra attention!

Having a healthy and well-functioning digestive tract is the foundation of overall health. It is through the digestive process that we are able to properly breakdown and absorb the nutrients in our food, which are necessary for all the systems and processes throughout your body. Our GI tract is also

Last night’s leftovers which I couldn’t even wait to take a bite of until after the photo 🤷🏻‍♀️ The flavors of this meal are ooon point and the Mexican Black Beans from the cookbook are definitely a new favorite 😍
I’ve been experimenting with eating more plant-based recently and in my poll last week a lot of you said you were interested in that, too! The key to satisfying plant-based meals is the same as any other eating pattern - whole food sources of fiber, protein, healthy fat (and ideally some kind of green!) It’s easier than it sounds, I promise! 😉 Here I’ve got brown rice, cilantro lime cabbage slaw, those beans, sprouted pumpkin seeds and hot sauce for a little extra 🔥
You don’t have to go fully plant-based to get the benefits of eating more plants but either way it can be feel intimidating to make changes. What are your biggest challenges/concerns when it comes to upping your plant intake/reducing animal products?

April is IBS awareness month so I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you my digestive health story (also, a major part of why I became a dietitian!) // Digestive issues, such as IBS, are often complicated and not at all straight forward to treat making living with them exhausting and sometimes very isolating. I certainly felt this way 8ish years ago when I first started having major digestive trouble. For me, identifying food allergies/intolerances, practicing intuitive eating and creating a consistent stress/anxiety management routine were all part of the healing process. Read more about it in my full blog post. Link in bio.
I’d also love to hear your story! Comment below if you feel comfortable or feel free to DM me ❤️
