Well folks, it’s about time for an update. The 30th of July was 6 months since I returned home from my medical journey in Mexico, the 18th was 6 months since my stem cell transplant. The past few months have been full of ups and downs, but mostly it’s been pretty steady, in a low sort of way. We’ve gotten out and had some fun family adventures, but it’s been a pretty mellow summer.
My hair is growing back in like crazy and the chemo curls are definitely a thing. My hair color is a little lighter, but it’s gone from pretty blonde to getting more red. It’s been really nice enjoying short hair again
At the beginning of January I decided to fall and sprain my left wrist and injure my right heal. At first they told me it was broken, but upon further examination they said it was either a deep bone contusion or I burst my plantar fascia. Either way, the healing process is the same, so I’ve been on crutches for a month. Guess I was so accustomed to the empathy from chemo, I got desperate and dove off the top of the washing machine. Lol.
I found out that my heart has a valve that never closed, but it’s never caused me issues in the past. I’m still having heart issues (low BP and high resting heart rate) with no reason as to why. I’ve been to doctors and haven’t gotten any answers (or return phone calls 🤬) so that has been a major issue in the way I feel. Every so often it normalizes and then goes awry again. Perhaps it is part of this “rollercoaster” of recovery I am on, although the doctors say there is no correlation...
The rollercoaster! (See attached graph) My Mexico group is now on the upswing and moving back towards normalcy! Yay! I have seen some improvements with numbness and tingling dissipating, so I am hoping to improve and keep improving as so many do! We’re cautiously optimistic it was a success.
