Turn your living room into a sensory playground! Lay down different textures like a towel, foil, bubble wrap, and fake grass for your baby to crawl or walk across barefoot. 👣
It’s an easy, no-mess activity that supports body awareness, tactile exploration, and gross motor development all while having fun!

Try it with music or let your little one help pick the textures!

Around 4 months old, babies start getting very curious about food, watching every bite you take, opening their mouths when the bottle comes near, and guzzling 4–6 ounces like it’s their job (because, well… it kinda is). Feeding time is a big part of development, and if you’re wondering if your baby’s hitting those milestones, we’ve got your back.

Feeding, whether by breast, bottle, or both, is a big part of early parenting, and no two journeys look the same. At Encompass, we recognize that feeding is one of many experiences that shape a child’s early development. While it’s not a service we directly provide, we know it’s a familiar part of the parenting path often filled with questions, emotions, and growth. This month, we’re honoring the effort it takes, the choices families make, and the love behind every feed. You’re doing your best, and that matters more than anything.

Fionn's is holding up a mirror to the developmental and intellectual disability service system.

When did we decide that being in services means you’ve got to be a permanent self-improvement project? That your value is tied to a goal sheet? That you’re only as good as your next measurable outcome?

Sure, learning matters. Trying new things matters. But let’s not pretend that always having a goal equals having a life. Support isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about standing beside someone, not standing over them with a clipboard.

Maybe what matters most isn’t the next goal, but the person who’s already enough, just as they are.

Developmental milestones aren’t a race... they’re a journey. Every child grows in their own time, and that’s perfectly okay. It’s easy to compare, but what's most important is supporting your child right where they are. If you're ever unsure about your child's development, trust your instincts, and we’re always here to help.

Around 12 months, your little one may start wanting to hold their own spoon at mealtime. Whether it’s at a summer picnic or dinner at home, this messy milestone builds fine motor skills and encourages independence.

If your child is having trouble with this or similar movements at the table, it could be a sign they may benefit from early intervention services. Visit our website to learn more and see how we can help.

By around 6 months, many babies start sleeping longer stretches at night! This milestone comes just in time for those late, sometimes noisy summer nights filled with backyard BBQs, fireworks, and neighborhood fun.

While the world outside is buzzing with activity, your little one learning to snooze through it all is a big win for their healthy growth (and for your sanity too).

Not every baby follows the same schedule, and that’s okay. Keep up those soothing bedtime routines and follow their cues. Here’s to peaceful sleepers even as the summer fun keeps going past bedtime!

Thinking about cutting back on screen time for your little one? You’re not alone, and the results can be amazing. From building blocks to busy boards, hands-on play builds coordination, confidence, and creativity. Swapping the screen doesn’t mean sacrificing fun; it just means more meaningful moments (and often, more giggles). 📚 Try sensory books, shape sorters, or stacking toys.
