Pork Chops with Apples and Onions – A Classic One
Tender pork chops seared to perfection and simmered with caramelized onions and sweet apples in a rich, flavorful sauce. A simple yet elegant dish that’s perfect for a cozy dinner.
Ingredients:
4 pork chops (loin or shoulder, bone-in)
Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil or sunflower oil
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 large white onion, sliced
3 cups apples (2 to 3 apples), cored and sliced
1 cup white wine (or substitute with chicken broth, cider, or beer)
Instructions:
Season pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear pork chops for 5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Melt butter in the same pan, then add sliced onions and apples. Sauté for about 8 minutes until onions are lightly caramelized and apples start to soften.
Deglaze the pan with white wine (or substitute liquid), scraping up any browned bits.
Return pork chops to the pan, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes, turning once and spooning the apple-onion mixture over the meat.
Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables, topped with the apple-onion mixture.
Pro Tip: Swap onions for leeks or add sliced potatoes for extra heartiness.
