Ever wonder why you can eat an entire bag of chips and still feel hungry after?

Or why the Pringles jingle, “Once you pop you can’t stop” is actually true?

Vanishing Caloric Density

Many foods have been designed to keep you coming back for more. That is how the company makes money. When you keep buying more. And you need more when you’ve finished what you’ve got.

Unfortunately, this typically leads to an excessive caloric intake and undesirable weight gain.

Can you still eat these foods? Of course! You are allowed to eat whatever you want, but if you know that you are likely to over eat them, it helps to put some strategies in place to mitigate the undesirable effect of over eating.

- Don’t keep them in the house
- Only buy them in single serving sizes
- Make sure to eat a well balanced meal before eating these so you are not overly hungry in the first place
- Pair them with a protein that will aid in satiety (ex: dip your chips in a yogurt based dip that is high in protein)

Maintaining healthy food habits while on the road is possible!

Here are 5 snack ideas to keep you fueled while on the go 🐎

1. Fruit and nut butter 🥜
You can find single serving, easy to travel with you nut butters that pair well with bananas, apples, pears, celery sticks (celery is technically a veggie, but that’s ok 😜) If you don’t have a knife to spread, you can always dip!

2. Hummus and Veggie sticks 🥕
You can also find hummus in individual serving sizes, making it great for eating on the go! Carrot sticks, broccoli, celery, cucumber and bell peppers are just a few veggies that out well with hummus

3. Turkey roll ups 🌀
This high protein snack is a quick and easy! You can swap out lettuce for spinach, leave off the guac if you don’t care for it, add in bell pepper strips.. the ability to make it your own is only limited by your imagination 🔆

4. Edamame 🫛
Sprinkle with some sea salt and your done ✔️
It really is that simple!

5. RiceCake with Avodado or Peanutbutter 🥑 🥜
You can swap out peanut butter for any nut butter and even top with banana if you want 🍌

What is your favorite on the go snack???

You don’t have to eat perfectly all the time to reach your goals. In fact, having an “all in” attitude also means that at some point you end up “all out”

Make the commitment to consistently work towards healthier eating habits, while allowing yourself permission to have imperfections. This removes stress around food and dieting and sets you up for sustainable changes.

What you need to know about alcohol and sleep 💤

🍷 Drinking before bed, even a small amount, can have a surprising effect on your sleep quality 🛌

🍷 Alcohol makes true rest a challenge because it raises your heart rate, suppresses your relaxation system and keeps your fight or flight response active

🍷 Even one drink can reduce your body’s recovery by 10% and 2 or more can lead to a 24-39% drop in restorative sleep

🍷 You May fall asleep faster after drinking, but alcohol disrupts sleep cycles, often causing you to feel more tired the next day

When it comes to alcohol, moderation is key 🔑
Avoid drinking the night before a big event, like a horse show or clinic with that exciting professional you’ve been dying to ride with 🐎

Meal prep doesn’t have to be complicated or tedious. Check out these short cuts using store bought convenience foods to make fast and easy preps! 🛒

Two reasons we love store bought convenience foods:
1. Time ⏰
2. Money 💰

🫘 Canned beans can be used as a quick protein and fiber source in tacos, chili or a bean salad

🍗 Rotisserie chicken can be your main protein source in a wrap, soup or salad. Health tip: remove the skin

🍚 Frozen cauliflower rice is the perfect base for a stir fry, burrito bowl or fried rice

🥦 Pre cut veggies are worth the extra cost when you’re low on time. Frozen or canned are also great options. Use them in sheet pan dinners, soups, salads or for snacking.

🥘 Pre cooked quinoa or any grain you can throw in the microwave for 90 seconds are perfect for quick salads, stuffed peppers or even a savory breakfast option

🐟 Canned salmon is another great protein option. Make it into a burger patty, put it on a salad or in a wrap

Sometimes the easiest meals are putting together a balance of store bought convenience foods. Simply put together:

✅ protein
✅ grain
✅ veggies/some color
✅ healthy fat

Convenience foods can be healthy!
