The Profoundness of Sibling Relationships - "Most siblings will spend 80% to 100% of their lifetimes with their siblings on this earth…It is a really, really big deal to lose a sibling. Very significant, but it’s very unacknowledged." - Dr. Heidi Horsley, PsyD, LMSW, MS
As a quantum healer and Reiki master, I am constantly reminded of the interconnectedness of all things, including the relationships we have with our siblings. Dr. Helen Horsely’s quote highlights just how profound these relationships can be and how devastating it is to lose a sibling. When we examine the body from a quantum healing perspective, we see that everything is energy and that this energy is constantly in motion. In order to maintain a healthy state of being, we must allow this energy to flow freely throughout our bodies and make sure that our self-regulation and self-healing systems are functioning properly. Quantum healing posits that we are not just physical beings, but that we also have energy within us. This energy is made up of our emotions, thoughts, and beliefs.
❤️ Similarly, our relationships with our siblings are also energy, constantly in motion. We have a unique connection with our siblings that can be difficult to explain or understand, but it is undeniably powerful. Losing a sibling means losing a piece of that energy, and it can leave a gaping hole in our lives. This can cause problems with how we feel physically and emotionally. Quantum healing tries to heal these blockages by using things like meditation and energy work. It helps us feel better and more balanced.
Even if all we can do is focus on our breathing, feelings, and being present, that is okay. It’s important to express and process our emotions so we can transform them. It will be difficult and painful - there is no sugarcoating that, as we all know.
We may not want to face it, but every evolutionary turn requires us to let go of who we believe we are. Healing and transforming through grief is one such turn.
😢Unfortunately, as Dr. Horsley notes in her quote, the significance of losing a sibling is often unacknowledged. We are often expected to simply move on, as if the loss of a sibling is no different than any other loss. But for those who have experienced it, the loss of a sibling is a profound and life-changing event.
Here in our community, we believe that acknowledging the significance of this loss is a crucial part of the healing process. By recognizing the unique energy that exists between siblings, we can begin to understand the depth of the loss and the impact it has on our lives.
When healing grief, it is essential to address the impact on our nervous system. The nervous system plays a vital role in regulating our responses to stress and trauma, and traumatic grief, especially sibling loss, can have a lasting impact on its functioning. This can result in a state of hypervigilance, where we remain in a constant state of high alert, easily triggered by reminders of the traumatic event. As a result, we may experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and weakened immunity. Quantum healing offers potential solutions to address these issues by utilizing techniques that focus on restoring balance to the nervous system and promoting its natural healing processes.
Just as we work to maintain the flow of energy within our bodies, we can work to maintain the flow of energy between ourselves and our siblings, even after they have left our natural world. Through practices like meditation, visualization, and Reiki, we can connect with the energy of our siblings and keep their memory alive.
Exploring concepts such as quantum healing, we recognize that this experience is not limited to our conscious minds but extends to our emotional and energetic bodies as well. By using various evidence-based healing techniques, we can transmute the emotional and energetic imprints that are left behind by the bond that we shared with our siblings, allowing us to heal and move forward. By healing ourselves, we are also healing the collective consciousness, allowing us to create a more harmonious and interconnected world.
🫶Our community is committed to providing a safe space for those affected, which is why we held a live online session this week to discuss the long-term impact of sibling loss. We are grateful to everyone who attended, and if there is anything we can do to help on your journey of healing, please don’t hesitate to message us. It is through togetherness and support that we make a collective difference.
💛 Sending you healing energy with love,
Kelli Smithgall
